the rise of parcels!

As we all know the amount of parcels is on the increase. (i was under the impression parcel force where supposed to be taking anything over shoebox size? Doesn't seem to be the case)

Today my van was full to the brim with parcels. I'm on my own on my route so I had to deliver each one, the mail was fairly heavy but ok, the amount of parcels however was simply extortionate. I ended up working two hours over my normal finish time, and considering I ran when delivering the last few bags of mail, it was down to the parcels which added the time on for me

Its not so much as a problem now, more of an annoyance, but no point moaning so I just get on with it, however my question is, what happens when it simply gets too much? The way the mail is delivered nowadays isn't going to work for much longer if the parcels increase.

And they will increase in volume, online ordering is becoming bigger each year, it's cheaper, becoming more accessible, and with high street shops closing down more people then ever are turning to online.

So what's going to happen when the volume gets too much? And when is too much?

It's great for business, it's just the line between postman and multidrop driver seem to be merging. I just can see the way we deliver post now coping with much more increase In parcels.

Rm solution is simple and cost effective cannot cost the business! use existing equipment of bag ties to tie together 2 lwt that are left in the office (because people don't use them and managers turn a blind eye if they complete) and hey presto double the capacity means you can take double the volume of parcels in half the time. It is known as the georoute law of planning and it is always true honest

I'm confused as to where Royal Mail is heading ....if Royal Mail is becoming a parcel / logistics company. Where does that leave Parcelforce ?

Completely overun by parcels. So many i'm being told to leave a postcode in the depot and "rotate" postcodes each day so no one misses two days running.

No, it was your own time you were giving away.

The next time you can't complete tell the manager before you go out and ask him what he wants you to do with the cut off, you then finish on time and go home the same as everyone else.

Trevjim - you deliver what you can in the time you are paid to do it. You're NOT obliged to deliver everything regardless of how long it takes.

If there's too much to deliver within your duty time then you tell your manager what you can do within your paid hours and it's then up to him or her to either get someone else to do the surplus or pay you overtime to do it.
