Early start

Told this morning we can start 30 minutes earlier due to the warm weather.
Apparently theres an agreement with the union.
Bit late now ,what does 30 minutes get you,DOUBLE ABSORBTION.

With or without the hours o/t? What's the point in coming in early then? Sure the managers would work on a Sat longer then they have to.

This is becoming absolutely ludicrous. Managers are making up useless decisions by the day. The buck stops with Moya Greene. She has ultimate responsibility for the health and safety of the workforce, and should woman up and make a national decision to stop us having to endure delivering during the hottest part of the day. These are simple decisions that can be made in order that deliveries can be carried out during the earlier hours of the morning, and it is obvious to all that she cannot trust local managers to carry out their lawful duty to ensure that employees work in a safe environment.

Start times should be based on mail arrival times.
Starting an hour earlier will make no difference unless changes are made along the whole pipeline and mail arrives earlier allowing for earlier dispatch times.
I'm not sure how easy that is in the short term and by the time anyone manages to arrange all of it, the heatwave may well be over.

It's the finish time which needs to be earlier they cannot even get the mail off the css machines on time now we need more staff yes it cost's money but it is better than people losing their lives due to heatstroke but MOYA prefers profit/CAPITAL to posties lives!.

On Saturday they manage to get all the meched trays in by 6am which means you get out an hour earlier and thus finish around midday.

If they can arrange to achieve this on a sat then they could achieve the same during a hot weather warning situation.

There has to be extra hours applied to the MC for this to work.

Clash regardless of mail arrival time, Royal Mail have a duty of care to it,s employees. They should have contingency plans in place, just as they do for bad weather. If they can call off delivery for 1 day in winter, they can do it in summer and delay delivery by one day allowing mail to be delivered first thing in the morning and sorting carried out on return from delivery, ready for the next morning.

Just reading some of the comments on here , yesterday our first wave of mail didn't arrive to 8.40am by the time the second wave had arrived and all sorting done plus 5min walk to where the vans are kept , it was 11.10 at my first delivery 5.20 when I got back and some lads were still out ,,, sounds like some of you are getting it easier than us

That situation would simply not work in our office as our FT are 6am - 2pm and our PT are 9am -2pm. Other than a few docket kings no one would be willing (or able with family etc) to stay out that long to finish. I for one in this heat would not be willing to work past my time.

Your manager should have rolled the second wave at the very least, sounds like a complete cock up.

When i got there they were already doing ips so when my time came to join in it was nearly all done.
Lino came round said all had to take double absorbtion so my partner started at 6.30 I started at 7.
Not a happy Saturday in this office.
