Just wondering if anybody else is struggling out on deliveries in this heat and is there anything we can do to stop the collapsing of extra duties , just till it cools down as I'm getting in and just sleeping from exhaustion , oh and do royal mail have to issue us water bottles and sun cream as in ten,years I've seen neither of these from royal mail

It's not so much the heat or sun that bothers me but it is a tad harder to breath. The heat naturally slows me down too.

What idiot decided that Royal Mail cricket hats should be dark blue needs sticking in the sun wearing one!

Cricket hats are generally WHITE for a reason!

I was informed by my dom that sun cream can't be handed out as someone might have a reaction of some sort to it .

It's been freakin hot esp when in van,but when i see other workers all in full protective clothing like water,gas etc digging holes and me in just shirt and shorts i feel i don't have it quite as bad.
Oh and don't even talk about anyone that works in a kitchen,that really has to be the hottest job!

We've been given water bottles i left mine on the seat of the van today as i did my last bag,when i got back in i took a swig and the water was hotter than me
I'm gonna fill a flask with iced water tomorrow.

be careful out there lads tell them its to hot take your time dont run around like a headless chicken its a job not a death sentence plenty of sun block and lots of liquid take it easy out there its not a race u will be no better thought of for killing yourself dont let yourself be bullied into anything u have your own mind if all else fails go to your union rep

It's been over 36C in direct sunlight every afternoon this week.

in our office yesterday and today we opened up the severe weather tool. this is a tool which must be used in these extreme temperatures,its not just to be used when we have snow on the ground.the swt told us to reduce the weight which in our office meant that we were allowed to leave bulky items such as catalogues behind and to use the drivers a bit more.

Why the hell are we not starting earlier....the union should be doing something about this...my office has just had its revision all the bikes have now been replaced with trolleys.... I would love to know who came up with 5 hour delivery spans for trolleys....great fun in this heat!!...

Yes but starting earlier will not make you finish earlier if you get sequenced mail you need more staff to make the walks/loops smaller ie get these useless over staffed managers to do it or employ some more staff. But MOYA will not allow it for she needs CAPITAL staff costs money and she will not part with it to save any of our lives!.

Depends how the mail dispatch comes into your office.

For example this time of year we get 2 mech sorted trays come in at 6am followed by a further tray around 8.30am. By the time you prep and bundle up you are out on the round by 9.15-9.30am and thus finish approx 4hrs later.

On Saturday they manage to get all 3 trays (one un sequenced) in by 6am which means you get out an hour earlier and thus finish around midday.

If they can arrange to achieve this on a sat then they could achieve the same during a hot weather warning situation.
