Posted a special without signature by mistake!

So today on my round, It was either down to me being a bimbo or the heat got to me, But I ended up posting a special letter without getting a signature.

I remembered having a special for a certain area and was confused when I completed that area without seeing one. It was only when I got back to the van that I looked on my list (I write down specials if I have alot to keep track of them) that I knew the exact address it was supposed to be delieved to.

I went back to the address but no one was in, I peered through the letter box and there it was inside on the floor. It was now a couple minutes past 1 which was kind of irrelevant as no one was in to sign and I couldnt retrive it. I left a note saying sorry for delivering it without a signature etc.

I was late back to the delivery office so no one was there. Its my day off tomorow but I am back in friday.

What should I do? Am I going to get in alot of trouble? The letter is safe and secure so I have no issues about it going missing (unless the owner turns into a *%$*"!) But as I didnt get a signature for it im a lil worried.

Dont worry about it. If you're sure it was posted then it won't be a failure and the customer will probably be happy not to have to go and pick it up. I've done it a few times over the years and never had any comeback.

I did the same a few years back, but as I knew I had delivered it to the correct address I was told by my DOM that I should'nt have done it, but at least I told them, so I was just told to try and not do it again.

I wouldn't worry too much, the letter is safe inside which is the main thing.

Don't they have a database program that's tracks if specials have been delivered on time or not? If so it might be worth mentioning it as if it gets flagged up as not delivered then you may get in more trouble if you havnt explained it.

However I don't know if such program exists or if it was just a rumour!

It is a failure as it hasn't been scanned and uploaded to the system as delivered.

The customer - the person sending the item would be entitled to claim compensation as a result.

If using a PDA it's monitored by these people.

Your manager can see exactly when and where an item is scanned or not in this case.
If it isn't scanned the system will automatically produce a failure report with is sent to your manager.

If using an EPOD card,once you hand in your card it's sent away to be scanned so that the signature can be uploaded to the track&trace website.

The old PHG grade used to have responsibility for ensuring the cards were handed in,Ours was very strict and would be waiting at your frame at 0500 the next day if you failed to hand it in.
In the case of the card system it will likely only flag up in the case of a customer complaint,but that's the sender not the recipient.

The same advice applies to this as most things,It's very unlikely you'll get sacked for making a genuine mistake,It's very likely you'll get sacked for deliberate dishonesty.

I agree with doorstep everyone makes mistakes but not everyone is honest. Just go in Friday and tell the truth.

Also take a card with you and get a signature then hand pop the card into the specials cage when none is looking. Then when it flags up as late you can say your pda broke down so you used a card which you popped into the cage when you went home so it's not your fault.

Dont wait till Friday , ring your DOM tomorrow and tell him whats happened , it shows you care enough to make the effort to report it straight away .
