posted to wrong address, advice please

I got put on a new round on saturday (first chance to post about it) I've never done it before and had no idea how to tie it up (no one helps in my office) but I managed to anyway as I vaguely know the area and it seemed to flow ok.

However I ended up posting to the wrong address a couple of times as I wasn't used to the numbering. For example the numbers would go 202-200-198-198a-196-196b-196a etc etc, so as I was walking and I had psst for 198 I would deliver it and the my next letter would be for 196 and as 198a wasn't numbered I put it in there by mistake and realised when I got to number 196.

Hope that makes sense, I knocked on the door and no body was in so I couldng retrive the post. It happened a couple of times on that route as the numbers were all over the place and not often was the house numbered.

What can you do in that situation? I never did the route before so I had no idea where the A's and b'a came in etc so I presumed they where just the next number in the sequence of post.

As long as you were in the right street, I wouldn't stress.

Don't worry at all. Ive put letters in a wrong block of flats before.

They can't expect someone to go out on a round they have never done before and get it perfect. Frankly I think there should be at least a day of training on a new round before you do it yourself, but thats Royal Mail for you.

I wouldn't really stress about it either. New on the round with an unusual numbering system.

Doubt it'll even be mentioned.

We have those whoops I made a booboo cards here, if your office has any take them out with you and pop it through the door when you notice your error.

Otherwise don't fret put it down to a learning curve.

i've done the first 6 floors of a block of flats before, only to realise i was in the wrong block. they were sky magazines i was doing on overtime a few years back. never heard anything to this day. i suppose if they'de all been giro's i might have had a lynch mob waiting for me. but we all make mistakes. from the top, right down to floorsweepers.

as far as i know I'm usually pretty good (well no complaints yet) but the heat can do some funny things to your brain making very hard to concentrate.

you did the right thing trying to get it back, there are some proper little cards you can post through apologising for you mistake if you can't.

I've done it a few times, the last time being yesterday. If they're not in I just put a red slip through the door apologising that it should have been posted to number ** instead.
