How do I insist on working my picked duty?

Our office has recently had a new duty pick after a delivery revision.
Most staff are now working their own duties - however I'm still getting stuck as a reserve.
DOM is insisting he has no other options to cover the rounds due to non-drivers, and staff not trained on rounds.
We're a small office, there are at least 3 below me in seniority that are on their picked duties.
What rights do I have to insist on getting to work my picked duty?

Unfortunately you dont have any rights,theres a little thing built into your duty thats says" otherwise directed by your manager" also they will hide behind operational requirements,you can make it as awkward as you like and as long as hes given you enough notifacation im afraid your out of luck

this happened to me ,,put in a grievance ,, in the short term you will have to live with it ,but they should be training the new reserves on these duties so that they can take over ,, till that's done your probably stuck,, i had to take it up to my area rep before i got any action

It's not fair but that's what happens here too - DIMs favorites / women always get put (and left) on rounds for weeks on end while those that have been dedicated and spent many years being moved and shoved around remain doing so. You can get your rep onto it as they do have some influence, especially if it's obvious that some are being treated better than others, plus the fact the union are involved scares most manager into actually acting. I'm fairly sure our rep told us you should be entitled to the rolling day off that your picked duty has though so that may be a slight help.

It basically comes down to managers who look after their favorites and use everyone else like they don't matter. Someone in our office walked out around ten days ago because of the very same thing, he was getting shunted all over the office with no notice. You shouldn't have to take that - it's only a job at the end of the day, I personally would bang a grievance in for unfair favoritism but it depends if you're strong enough to live with it while it's being dealt with.

that was basically the clincher for me ,, i refused to give up my long weekend ,, and they had to accomodate me, i didnt mind what my day off was during the week ,, but i wouldn't give up my sat/mon

This was one of the reasons I left. Stupidly I trained as a driver so was punted from duty to duty with no notice even though they said that they would get me on my own duty as soon as possible.

Well I've been told 'a week on Monday'
But that's the 3rd, I think date I've had.
Last long weekend was Mid December! If I started my duty next week I would have had one next weekend - I pushed back a bit and my duty next week ( a floater) also has Saturday off - so I finally get a long weekend - IF I start my picked duty the week after - did I say IF enough?

They can within reason and as long as its fair. Fairness is the clincher usually.

I don't think our managers really cared about fairness. Just what made their job easiest.

id think after a new pick of duties all duties would be picked therefore covered

Could you not argue then, that if I'm not getting to do my signed for duty then why not pull someone else off their round to cover what I'm doing the following week? Why am I getting the shaft each week?

Thats what I am hinting at. Although it is impossible to say whether it applies in every situation in every office but certainly when its possible the pain and the gain should be passed around on a fair and equitable basis.

As was mentioned earlier put in a grievance citing that you are being treated less favourable than your fellow work mates.
Operational requirements etc should be a last resort not planned weeks in advance.

did you do a rural duty before the repick which was a big duty and no body claims to know ???
