Joint Delivery Training Workshop – CWU Delivery Rep/DOM

Further to LTB 706/12 issued to Branches on the 14th September 2012 this LTB is to inform Branches that the Joint Training Workshop has been updated and an additional 1 day workshop has also been agreed with Royal Mail.

For the CWU this training package remains the prime training for CWU delivery representatives. The joint training is designed to assist CWU representatives and managers who are about to enter the revision process work together to deliver successful revisions in line with the National Agreement BT2010. In addition CWU delivery representatives and managers who have already gone through a revision but did not receive any previous joint training can now sit on the new 1 day joint training workshop.

Branches that have CWU delivery representatives who have not received any of this training should contact their CWU Divisional rep and advise them accordingly so they can instigate the arrangements for them to receive the joint training.

The training package has been updated with the assistance of Bob McGuire CWU Divisional rep for the North East and the department wishes to place on record our appreciation for his involvement.

A joint communication which is self explanatory, covering the updated joint training workshop is attached and is also being released by Royal Mail today.

Joint Communication from Royal Mail and the CWU on the updated
Delivery Programme Joint Training Workshops


The CWU and Royal Mail have been delighted with the positive feedback from over 350 delegates of both Delivery Office Managers and CWU Representatives who have attended the first module of the Delivery Programme Joint Training Workshop. Managers and CWU Representatives have found great value in the training and a key reason for the success of this development programme has been achieved by Managers and CWU Representatives attending and working together at the sessions. Also adding to this is the fact the training workshop was jointly developed and is jointly delivered by Royal Mail and CWU trainers/facilitators. As a result we are delighted to announce the following update of the programme to support delivery transformation.

Delivery Programme Joint Training Modules

Module 1 Day 1 (1 day development attended -24 to -22 weeks before revision). This module remains unchanged. It is a high level introduction to the revision process for Delivery Offices Managers and CWU Representatives who are about to start their revision journey. This development introduces the 6 phase revision approach and specifically explains the importance of, and how to use, the Systems Readiness Tool, Pegasus Base Data and Traffic Measurement, key tools in enabling revision planning activity.

Module 1 Day 2 (1 day development attended approximately -19 weeks before revision) has been updated to reflect the recent changes to a number of the resource planning tools. This session introduces and develops understanding about Model Week Traffic, Indoor Workload Tool and the Menu of Duty Options, all key tools in resource planning and helping to plan a successful revision.

NEW Module 2 (1 day development attended approximately – 14 weeks before revision) This module covers the Outdoor Revision Process, Outdoor Span, Route Planning (GeoRoute), MIRA, Duty Builder and Post Implementation Review. All of which are key tools in helping to plan a successful revision.

NEW One day Delivery Programme Development Workshop This development is available to units who have not previously attended Module 1 or 2. This one day workshop gives Delivery Offices Managers and CWU Representatives an insight into the key resourcing tools to help with resource planning and the importance, and benefits of the Post Implementation Review Process.

Royal Mail and CWU are now in a position to continue the national roll out of all these valuable joint training packages which have been shown to assist in the successful deployment of delivery revisions and business transformation in delivery.

The Head of Delivery Programmes nationally and geographically, Delivery Directors, Delivery Sector Managers, CWU HQ Outdoor Dept, CWU Divisional Representatives, and Area CWU Representatives fully support this training programme to deliver success for the delivery function. Royal Mail will ensure that the appropriate release is supported for all participants from the same office to attend this important development together.
