Don't be mislead in to thinking that any shares will be available to sell any time soon - here is an extract from The Department of Business, Innovation & Skills - Royal Mail - Myth Busters

'Employee Shares
Any employee share scheme will be worthless like ColleagueShare
The employee share scheme, which Parliament has enshrined in statute, will not be the same as ColleagueShare. Real shares will be allocated to the employee share scheme – meaning that employees will own at least 10% of the company by the time the Government sells its last share. Our objective in setting up the share scheme is to secure strengthened employee engagement in the company and to ensure that staff benefit through dividends from any future profits.'

Note the bit in bold - so we will not own any shares until the last share is sold and then have to hold them for let's say 3 years minimum to avoid taxation. So if the floatation is under-subcribed and RM are left holding say a minority stake - then the share trigger will not happen. Roulette anyone ?

Take a look at the Pensions Proposal and some staff will lose the value of the shares in just 1 year - it is a con and don't get sucked in to believing it is a good deal.

£2000 is a s**t amount. Why is Cable saying keep them for 5 years and avoid capital gains tax. Capital gains tax allowance for a year is £10600. Does he think the shares will increase in value by 5 times. Anyway couldn't you put them into an ISA and avoid tax at 18%. Could £2000 become £10000 over 5 years. I wouldn't want to take the risk and see my wages shrink long term over 5 years hoping the shares do well.

Don't like long wait to cash in shares. I don't want to stay Royal Mail longer than necessary. I want cash cash cash not shares shares shares. If I had 3 grand like managers it will be big help, I am not interested in waiting 3 years to cash in for the shares. I don't even know what would happens if say we lose our job, what would happens to our shares for example. :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Very good points! I also do not intend to stick around that long... But as it is free shares then ce la vie!

In 3 years time (or 4yr by floatation), the share will be worth far less as the privateer will find out they cannot make that much money, share prices will go up, real competition might kick in, they will be arguing with Regulators and Govt to cut them some slack on USD and working conditions for employees, service will be worse and business will be back in decline.

* I really do not see how a private company can carry on with the use of Vans and the lack of monitoring as the amount of fuel used for the job and by posties using the vans for private uses...

** Absence/Sickness policy will be more in line with the private companies (we think it is bad now...) and that will create even more absence and high turnover.

*** I will be selling my shares the first opportunity I get - that is, if I qualify to have some and/or qualify to sell them :nervous

it says u cant do anything with them shares for atleast 3 years. But during the initial IPO Goldman Sachs gonna sell them so as other investors like the facebook IPO. If not may be after the intial frenzy wears out GS along with other investors gonna sell them once they reach a high point within few months. At 3 yers period EU gonna be busted ,UK in double double dip recession and Royal Mail shares gonna be in Penny.

Plus all the Park & Loop , Modernisation etc etc must have been pre-meditated and we came into profits recently. May be the books been cooked and they will be served hot to investors. plus RM was going loss also because UK economy was down, Its not like Management did the magic trick as UK economy also recovered gradually as the the profits of royal mail.

Forget big fish,Goldman Sachs is in it to fry whales and sharks and crocodiles.

The main reason RM made a profit was the change in regulation that allowed the steep increases in prices and the change in DSA charges to make it profitable. It had nothing to do with the economy recovering because it hasn't - there's been virtually no growth for ages.

It's good that we are allowed to charge what the services actually cost now but I can't see that freedom remaining if the business isn't privatised. Like the government taking over the pension, it's all part of the deal.

A facebook friend of mine who is a stock broker and he try to sell something from facebook messaging, I told him I haven't got money to invest. But I asked him a question. If I get Royal Mail shares from privitasation. Should I sell at first opportunity or keep. He told me to keep them. :funneh

What do you think about that.

We will be given the option to refuse them.
I wonder how many people will refuse them.
If I remember correctly we had the option of refusing the Colleagueshares.
I wonder if anyone did.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
