Posties who are deemed "slow"?

Post by mandelsons_toenail »

Ok

Few guys in an office I represent, who are a pairing with shared vans.

Old school posties, been in the job years, everything by the book.

Dom / linos assume and comment on the fact that they are "slow"

What is slow?
Their prep is good, IMO above the average rate, infact quicker.

Outdoors they use trolleys, and work together,

Dom has issue with them IMO as they take longer than georoute planned (they all do) however as these guys take a full break and refuse to carry bags :Applause over shoulder they take even longer , IMO they do nothing wrong.

What can Dom do except offer advice on how to be more efficient :left:

How would he even know?

Advice appreciated.

Trying to get my s**t together so if/when this blows up we can react accordingly :thumbup

Thank you

all he can do is bully them out of a job he will say how mail is down below the average and won't pay them o/t unless they argue about it every day. sad story.

As long as they are following the rules then they should be fine.
They can be tested on duty, but in the presence of the Rep/Area Rep, to protect them from the manager and any idiotic suggestions they will undoubtedly sprout forth.
The Rep can merely quote rules and agreements at them.
The only thing is, it would appear that the DOM is basically saying that the posties are DELIBERATELY going slow, to either cut off or avoid lapsing or whatever.

To me, the DOM is just trying to bully them into going faster and do more, cutting corners etc. After P&L revision as you know there are delivery methods etc. to stick to, so as long as they're not skiving, taking extra breaks etc., I can't see how the DOM can make any claims against them. Not that that will stop him/her, it never does.

I'd log all mentions of conversations/queries/instructions in relation to this, keep it diarised, and make the Area Rep/Branch etc. aware now and keep them updated.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

Ask him to test the walks, if they're doing everything by the book not sure he can do anything except like what was said above.

Thanks for the advice, generally as I thought.

Can a rep insist on being there during round testing?

How would a rep observe both pairings :Very Happy

When the threatened me with testing my Rep said only in their presence. Otherwise the manager may say some dodgy stuff, like using bags when not appropriate etc.
To observe both, you could suggest alternate days, i.e. go with one Weds and one Thurs, or 2 Weds running, or get the Sub Rep/Area Rep to accompany the other postie. Obviously the manager will want it on easy days, but it should be done at a time when the mail level is close to model week in my view, to give a more accurate test result. If you go with them on separate days, again it should be on as close to the same mail level for both days/posties.

If someone accused me of being slow I would show them how quick I could fill out a grievance form.

Unless you absolutely know for certain that they can maintain the pace set out by georoute across the delivery this could be dangerous.

If they are slower than the georoute expectations this will give management ammunition to continue to bully the members.

Some people will be slower due to age and physical condition,It isn't a crime to be slow and both managers and members have to learn to accept that, there are no individual standards for outdoor so agreeing to be "tested" is an own goal in my opinion unless you know for certain there is a problem with the duty planning.

If there is a flaw in the planning of the walk this should be easily picked up in the office by checking the A+ and walk log with the duty holder and the planner.

It shouldn't be necessary to live test an entire walk unless the planning is so bad that every loop is wrong and it definitely shouldn't be done as a way of proving whether a member's performance is acceptable to a twat of a manager.

Thank you.

Rounds tested so far @ model week are 90 mins over :left:

Georoute is awesome no ? ;liar

So can I refuse an outdoor test as there are no outdoor standards?

The only reason to test the outdoor is to test the validity of the georoute outputs.
You shouldn't need to test a full duty to do that,It's actually better to break it down into loops anyway.
As the rep you could volunteer to test the loops.

Outside of that I wouldn't go near an outdoor "test".

It's happening at our place now, people are being called into the office for performance issue's and being given letters by the Dom detailing what needs to be done, and warning them that it can lead to their dismissal,I haven't had this new development yet but I have been in 3 times in the past for performance issue's,just lately they have been given out the letters I will see if I can get hold of one to put on here.I have been prep tested even tho I am part time and come into a partly prepped frame I have been told I should prep the reminder of the mail and packets at the agreed rate of 13 a minute,I asked to see this in writing and one of the Dom's said no need as it has been agreed by the union and it comes under the 100 bsi that we are supposed to work at,I am sure this is bollox but I don't know what the actual standard is.

The only way he can deem you are sorting @ rate of 13 IMO is him using the IWT against all cwu agreements.

Tell the dims you can match the flyers, no problem....cut an hour off your delivery span, easy.......just give him a pen n paper, ask him to jot down which of their rules and regulations he wants you to ignore....and ask him to sign it.......i can guarantee you will not hear another peep out of him about performance..

Walks are so badly constructed at my office, even Jesus Christ would have had a tough job blaming everyone but the idiots whose brainchild they are.
