Any one out there who knows where I stand ? I had a first stage warning in December after returning to work following an accident in my RM van . I broke 8 ribs and punctured lung . I wasn,t very pleased to get warning but was told that was RM procedure ! I have now had an op on my hand , thought I would be going back to work straight away but have been told I must have 2 weeks off due to plaster cast on my hand . Will I be up for second stage ? It is 6 months since first stage warning and the injuries are not related !! Would be good to know where I stand before having my next conversation With DOM !

If the accident wasn't your fault you shouldn't have got a stage warning. Not sure where you stand on the 6 months thing though, sure someone will come and clear it up though.

I'd argue if it was his fault he should still not get a warning

Are you sure. our area rep has said that if your on a stage before the new system came in then you have to see out you time ie 1 year.

the new procedure kicked in on the 27th may 2013. If you have been on a stage warning 1 for 6 months before that date then you would be off the procedure if you have not exceeded the standards.
It seems that your warning was handed out just under the six months therefore you warning 1 still applies until the 6 months have elapsed from 27th may.
However this is the important part. I do not believe that you should be on a stage 1 anyway because it was a work accident related time off .
You need to file a grievance with your manager that your stage 1 should never have been triggered in the first place. Use procedure errors by your manager and unfairness because the manager did not follow the guidelines in the old attendance agreement. There is clear reference to accident related time off providing you were not clearly to blame for the accident.
The new procedure has an informal part to it.Use this as a reason to explain your circumstances with regard to the operation.Again the manager should be listening to what you have to say.
If you do trigger a new stage 1 review this will only be for a 6 month duration

Another Limey is completely correct, your area rep either isn't reading his LTBs, or he misunderstood this one

TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS

This will be straight forward for most parts of Royal Mail Group. No one will be disadvantaged in comparison to what would have happened had they stayed on the current procedure. Where the new arrangements are of benefit by coming off the procedure more quickly, this will be implemented from the date of introduction.

But don't get caught out the 4 absences or 14 days over a rolling 12 months still apply. So whilst you can come off a stage after 6 months, you can still trigger a warning if you go over the limits, and that includes the absences that caused the warning and any within it, if they fall within the 12 months.

Thanks for all your replies , so hopefully I will have come off my first stage as 6 months have passed since I received it in December ! As regards my accident I was knocked out and don't recall the events leading up to it , but have been led to believe I pulled out to cross back road and was struck by landrover ! Hence I am deemed to be at fault ! No charges were made and also no compensation

Also had phone call this morning to see if I could go in and do light duties , hand in plaster , arm in sling !! With our delivery office having just been closed and moved 20 miles away !!

What does your doctor say?
Light duties doing what with one arm?
How do you get into work and more importantly home again if you can't drive? If I'm guessing right your area isn't blessed with public transport!
If my guess is right then PK is the man to have a word with.
