Unmarked stamps

Sorry about the title but I don't know what the correct technical term is, anyway ...

I've only been with RM for a few months but have noticed a dramatic increase in stamps on letters and packets/parcels not being stamped, to avoid reuse.

Yesterday I totaled up, roughly I accept, about £50 worth of stamps that could be reused. I understand they are anti peel to stop removal but the envelopes and packets are reusable.

Why is this happening? If you multiply £50 by the rounds in the country I hate to think of the money lost, or am I missing something?

Yes - you are missing the bit where you are supposed to put a line through the stamp to cancel it to prevent fraudulent re-use.

he,s assuming,,,as I did (wrongly maybe) that the £50 quids worth you mention could be re-used would not be able to be re-used, if you knew you had to scribble a line through the stamp.

As you are worrying about the potential loss, it suggested (to me) that you weren't doing it.
I also suspected that as a newbie you might not have been instructed to do it.

I haven't been instructed to do anything to them, the issue has never been mentioned.

However, I do 'scribble' over them, as it seemed to be my employer is losing a massive amount of income and that will affect profits and my pay rise!!! Don't laugh too loudly. I know some that don't though.

Scribbling over unfranked stamps is part of our job.
To find out why they come through unfranked you would need to ask someone further up/down the foodchain.

Several years into the job and I've never been told to pen-cancel unpostmarked stamps.
As to "Why are they not getting stamped at the Post Office where sent" they have been meant to for a few years now but many don't as goodwill has been lost and they're not paid to do so. As to why are they not getting stamped at Mail Centres it's because they would have to pay for someone to do so while you can use your biro without extra payment !

It's down to late shifts in MCs as that's the shift that processes collections, the worst culprits seem to be the new build MCs. RM don't allow time for other shifts to put a line through them.

Go on EBay and theres 1000s on there , he has got a point i get loads of specials like this £6 of stamps a time amd at xmas there are 10000s going through like it

Let's say my £50 figure is high, let's be considerate and half that for demonstration purposes.

So at £25 a day per round, we've got about 32 rounds, so that's £800.

Would anybody like to guesstimate how much RM are losing on daily basis?

You assume that everybody takes and reuses unfranked stamps, personally it's not something that crossed my mind until it was mentioned in RMC.

Fair Point but if somebody has say a £3 stamp on a jiffy bag they can reuse it has to be tempting.

It's something I've noticed on delivery and it seems to be on the increase.
