fed up fighting to get paid for overtime

Any particular reason why we seem to have to fight to get paid for work done?
And why do managers seem surprised when challenged and told why we dont want to do overtime

Just remember that postman not being paid there overtime goes towards managers savings.

Exactly the same in my office. We do the overtime and then they say we can't pay you for all of it just so much etc etc....

Oh so you just paid your managers bonus over the course of the year. Lesson make them earn it next time!.

A lot of people have. There is one postie now who actually doesn't mind doing it for free!!! But everyone said no to extra last week and I seem the management out delivering!!

I would rather sever my own testicles with a rusty carving knife and eat them for lunch than work for free. It's bad enough working when being paid to.

Strange how this post has just come up as I've completely stopped doing overtime recently due to the same reasons. It seems to be common practice up and down the country.

You're all ok, if I don't do overtime or make a fuss when I dont get all my overtime paid in my pathetic 2 month contracts wont be renewed.

Its s**t but atleast I have a job. Thats what I have to tell myself to keep myself sane

jw1234 I do respect the dilemma you are in being on a short term contract, but at the end of the day you are doing work for zilch and that cannot be good for your own self esteem and it certainly does not help your office getting the right amount of hours into the place. If you handle your situation sensibly and agree an amount of overtime with your line manager prior to taking on the extra work or if you feel you will be unable to do your own work within your contracted hours, then there should be no dispute at the end of the week when you have booked your overtime. If you get paid for the work you do and you are willing to do the overtime, you will feel much better about yourself and any threats to not renew your contract should be dealt with by the union rep. Make sure you join CWU if you have not already done so.

Or it may be a genuine mistake.

22 hours in one week is what I fought for and got.
Jacked in world class mail due to overtime being iffy

At the end of the day if you're not being paid someone is false accounting
Riyal mail is all about honesty
