i,m starting to believe that mail volumes are going up, not down, took a look at one of my bundles today, there was letters from, M&S, THE CO-OP, TESCO, SAINSBURY, THE COUNCIL(was every door), various postcards advertising sales, not to mention, loads of utility bills, these people did,nt send out letters years ago, did they???

Well, summers certainly 'aint what they used to be.
I used to look forward to the summer months in Royal Mail, used to be a handy breather before the manic autumn/winter months culminating in a back-breaking xmas fortnight.
These days, the drop in mail volume during summer is minimal, I find.

We 'were' supposed to be lapsing out in the rurals for 13 weeks starting four weeks ago (i.e. my walk was gonna disappear )

Hasn't happened ... apparently because "traffic is too high".

Definitely, the last 2/3 summers have seen a much less marked drop in volumes than previous years.

Today I fully prepped two duties in around 60 minutes admittedly they both only had 1 D2D.
My partner and I delivered both in a combined time of seven and a half hours or 3hrs 45 mins if you want to look at it like that.

I love the way our T&Cs are the same throughout the business.

If the work isn't there, the jobs aren't really there either.
Unless you are asking, as some do, that colleagues pretend they are working. Because that costs jobs as well.

I think we need to lose this "lapsing is the end of the world" mentality.
It just means someone else can get a week off with the kids over the summer holidays.
And we work all our paid hours as we agreed to in 2007.

Fair point well made - my point however errs towards the runners, the corner-cutters etc - where "I've finished at XXXX hours" is to them a badge of honour - and when the floater comes in and does their walk ... you know the rest ...

Impossible to do though on days like today. I finished an hour early(doing the job "properly") today, went up and signed off, to be met with remarks from the managers about how we should be doing more lapsing, and how an early finish today will be remembered later on in the week. This of course from people who are being paid to sit around and do not much more than scratch their bollocks.

I still don't know why the various days mail can't be levelled up to a greater degree. To be going from finishing an hour early one day to an hour and an half over the next is ridiculous.
