I keep reading in the news about privatisation and shares. So when the sell off happens we all get shares? Even part-timers? Do less hours worked mean less shares?

As a workforce as a whole do we really know what's best for ourselves

What we do know is what appeared in the 'Myth Buster's document to questions from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills :-

Employee Shares
Any employee share scheme will be worthless like ColleagueShare

The employee share scheme, which Parliament has enshrined in statute, will not be the same as ColleagueShare. Real shares will be allocated to the employee share scheme – meaning that employees will own at least 10% of the company by the time the Government sells its last share. Our objective in setting up the share scheme is to secure strengthened employee engagement in the company and to ensure that staff benefit through dividends from any future profits.

The key points are we don't get ANY shares unless the balance of shares are sold up to say 90%. We should also get at least 10%

Obviously, if we were to be given 15% then the remaining 85% would need to be sold.

Whether we will be given some shares or have to buy them at a discount or a combination of the 2 remains to be seen. If there is insufficient demand from institutional investors, we may get offered some free shares with the option to buy more at a discounted price so RM get a 100% sale.

if we have to buy the shares we should have it for say 15 pounds a week instead of paying 15 pounds for tax. so if we earn 400 pounds and take home 307 a week and then we should pay 15 out of 93 for shares (and the rest will pay for pension, CWU, National Insurance and Income Tax)

There was really good article in the Money section of the The Times on Saturday June 15 'Make the most of wokplace share schemes' - it made reference to our Royal Mail shares and explained the differences between Sharesave (Save as your earn) and Share Incentive Plans. I have the paper version of the article but cannot provide a digital version of the article as I am not a subscriber to The Times.

No. Moya Greene, and all the other executive thieves, do far less hours than we do, and do far less work than we do, yet.....Will get shares worth hundreds of thousands of pounds more than the pittance we'll be given.

Until this 'new technology' can deliver parcels RM isn't going anywhere for a long time yet. Technology (as in Internet shopping) is what is keeping us all in a job and will keep doing so. Without that we'd be f*cked.
