Days like this that i love my job

Today I had the pleasure of delivering the atlantic star medal to a 90 year old customer of mine , he is one of only 200 sailors left alive that served on the atlantic convoys. it was quite an emotional moment when he opened his box and his eyes welled up, because he always thought that he would pass away before the medals got handed out. Normally on a Saturday I like to get done and get home, but the gent asked me in for a cuppa and a look at his other medals, he had them all, sometimes the word hero is used quite liberally, but in this case its an understatement , he was very proud of his achievments but not boastful , it makes you realise what a good life we have, and its thanks to people like Mr Thompson that we do.

Did he also tell you how the mens spirits were kept up in the convoys because they regulary recieved mail royal mail managed to get there mail to them sonehow .

I too had the honour of delivering an Artic Convoy medal on Thursday,pity the recipient had to wait 70 years for it.

Even sadder that most didn't live long enough to get theirs,but at last this force's hating govt has bowed to pressure,well done to Mr Thompson,you are a shining example of everything that is great about this Country.
