Door 2 doors.

Post by norman13 »

In our office we've always done our door 2 doors as we want as long as they're delivered by the end of the week. Now lino says we must take a sixth a day delivering to addresses we're not going to is this right as I thought the agreement was it was up to the walk holder as long as they're all delivered.

The agreement did originally state that it was up to the duty holder how s/he did the D2D as long as they got done.
In an office with failing D2D it would seem logical to put in place more stringent controls.

Doing 1/6th each day is actually beneficial because it increases your call rate, thus making your duty longer.
Unless there are specific weight issues due to the layout of the frame, it is the best way to do your D2D.

In some offices they now insist on the D2D being prepped in first so it can be checked.
That isn't in the original agreement either.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You should finish on time,so it doesn't matter what you are delivering or indeed prepping if you can't do it in your time leave what ever your dim say's and get it into your head job and finish is done.

more calls = later finish = more hours for your office = more people (including you) get to keep their jobs
also means less time for lapsing and absorption.

also from a reserves point of view, each walk having set d2d's to do each day (marked on the frame with little labels mon, tue etc) makes it easier for me to do my fair share, wouldn't want to p - off the walkholder by just doing whatever i felt like

Lol D2D prepped into frames, what a farce. Some of the idiots in my office prep them into double slot frames then spend ages pulling out the mail and trying to sort it all out once the frame is full.

Just prep them up and put them at the back of the bundle, how simple can it be!

in my office we do 1/5 and none on Saturdays. This is the fair way because if you go sick they know what's been done plus if you just do whatever d2ds you feel like then the floater has no clue what he's supposed to do. You have to think about what's fair and not what helps you run around your walk faster, if doing 1/6 a day makes your duty too long then cut off and flag it up. If managers feel they have been getting too many leftovers due to people skipping houses if they ain't got no mail there or whatever then they will make you do it this way instead.

And then don't bother delivering them...

Its not that simple as you said. You prep your double slotted and the rest of your 1/6th and take them all out with the letters and deliver them. There is no picking out of anything.

It amazes me how many does not know how to do the double slots: 'address1' letters always goes in front and 'address2' letters at the back - no mixtures and secondary sorts - and that is simple!

Some have no choice in how d2d are prepped.

If the D2d Control Sheet is completed on a daily basis, anyone coming onto the frame can see what has already been done. I find it far easier to complete the 1/6th or 1/5th per day. The time on delivery to drops where there are no other mail is manageable unless there is a really busy packet day, but far better than having D2ds hanging around in the frame all week until you do have other mail.

Some people in my office sort them into frames, then only pull out where they have mail for - spending ages pulling out double slots and putting D2D's for the non-calling addresses back in.

Its a waste of time when a bundle at the back of your mail bundle is as easy as it gets, it's just another way that people make a simple job difficult.

But a bundle at the back of your mail bundle is not the agreed way; nor is prepping first .

Why not do it the way RM wish and CWU have agreed and if it takes more time then fine.

Just because some wish to carve the job up... we all suffer and lose jobs.

I despair

I don't want to argue but I do not understand how having 4 -5 d2ds (often misshaped and glossy items) at the back of a bundle can be easy or quicker. So every time you get to a door, you take the letters from the main bundle and then take the d2ds from the back of the bundle, combine and then deliver and repeat this for how many properties. Do you use very small bundles?

I think yours will waste more time than just taking everything with d2ds at the back of letters - Of course it depends on how many double slots you have. Sometimes I can have up to 80 in a day and up to 180 on a particular walk.

D2Ds for double slots should ideally be all delivered in one go unless you are going to mark the d2ds - how can you know which one that have been done? How can a reserve or floater know?
