Just tell him you were using your initiative and the petrol was cheaper.....Everybody makes mistakes and especially if your filling your own car up with petrol every other week...best of look.

does the fuel cap say diesel only???(sticker) maybe a get out of jail clause because thay always put a fu*kin hot water one on the taps???

Nobody is infallible, everyone makes genuine mistakes.
It wasn't intentional, and requires no more than a bollocking and perhaps a counselling.
The DOM should be reasonable. Oh, hang on.....

I did this a few months ago, not much agro from DOM,just one of those things we do when concentration is not at it best.

Just tell the van managers so he can called up the AA or whatever to come in and remove the petrol off the van. It is not wrecked yet until you drive it.

Happened to one of our drivers recently(very experienced one)....gaffer got some mechanics out who drained the petrol after telling the driver not to move or start his van.....topped it up with the correct fuel...and in no time at all he was back on the road....not sure if Royal Mail recognise the fact most of their staff are humans(not donkeys, robots,)and are prone to human error now and again...to cut a long story short the driver still drives, the gaffer still manages, the van runs better than before, end of!

Why not join the union and get local help and an office to back you up rather then ask for advice on here?

It's surely fair enough to ask for advice. Or is the point that if you are not in the Union ... then you don't count?

Here is a tip if this happens but you only put in a little when you realise your error .

The taxi drivers do this once or twice a year ( they say it actually cleans something ) ! ! !

If you put unleaded in a diesel then just top up again with more diesel . I done this with my car and had put in about £20 worth of unleaded . I had some diesel already in the tank . I drove about and it started driving like a kangaroo and that's when I realised my error . Drove back and filled up with diesel and it drove perfectly and still does to this day .

My wife has twice filled our diesel cars with petrol

Both lived to tell the tale..........as did the wife.

I've since started running my cars on a 50/50 mix of diesel and used vegetable cooking oil, and usually add 10% petrol to the mix in the winter as it helps to thin the cooking oil and helps prevent gelling in low temperatures.
