Reps get afraid because they are led to believe that if they get too strong, they will face false accusations from management favourites, management will investigate and they will get sacked.
Don't be afraid.
Trade unionists who are effective can get full time release for life when management get so pissed off they suspend a rep but can't charge them fairly. False accusations don't stick.
There is no excuse for collaboration because reps get rewarded when they act according to the principles of the union not when they do what the management or right wing elements of the Labour Party want.
When a rep gets a lifetime suspension for being a good rep, others want to copy and the union gets stronger.
Message to all reps
Challenge everything that is dodgy. Increase the pressure.

Or if a rep gets too strong ,he may be offered a offer he cant refuse, nice little DOMS job in well run office on a fantastic salary just to get him out the way .

I've seen both sides of the coin, I have been seen as 'too strong', accused of running the office etc, the members eventually turn on you (easy target), thats when the 'offer' comes in, I took it, 10 long days worth.... a very big mistake, lesson learnt, I took a look in the mirror, did'nt like everything I saw, so I changed.
The lesson for any Reps is to remember just one thing, there is ALWAYS someone to speak to.
