Signed off sick long term but have holiday booked

Post by acovanne »

Hi I am new on here but have a problem, I have been signed off for 6 weeks..long story but have disability which Atos recognise but manager does not, also had AOD 2 yrs ago, still have treatment ( steroid injections) manager makes no allowances to change my duties when I have them, now doctor has signed me off and I have a 3wk holiday abroad booked in just over a weeks time which was booked last year, what can I do as I need to be available for meeting, calls etc. any advice would be most welcome please thank you ..I work for Parcelforce

1.Sign off sick absence,on annual leave and then when you return re-visit your GP for another line.
2.Alternatively be up front, inform your manager and ask for permission to be excused contact for 3 weeks due to a pre-planned holiday.
3.Alternatively...stay at home and be miserable.

1 will keep everything above board but will use up your annual leave.
2 will keep everything above board but runs the risk of refusal and things getting messy.
3 is not worth contemplating.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Thanks, I can't pretend I'm not going away anyway as my partner works there too, but have just searched on here and found ECJ decision case of Pereda which says I can go as long as I am not doing anything which is against my illness..am only going to chill so will just discuss with manager when I have next contact...thanks

Just be honest and tell them.my wife was off from work on long term sick and we explained we had a holiday booked...they were totally fine with it...under royl mails new absence procedure they are meant to take things in a less confrontaional way...maybe you will be lucky?

Hi Just thought I would update you , have spoken to work and they have told me I can use my annual leave whilst sick but they wont pay bonus or shift allowance which they normally do whilst on A/L or I can come off sick, have A/L and get paid properly, then continue sick when I get back hence logging 2 x sick absence so I'm on a lose lose for being sick....

Hi,

Firstly you do get your RFT bonus when you are off sick, if you get SA O/T you are entitled to it while you are on A/L but there is a reduction if you have been off sick prior to your A/L if you get any allowances for driving you are entitled to them when you are on leave. Not on sick.

If you have a sick note for 6 weeks they are aware you will not be back to work for that period, the review process is to see if there is things that can be done for you while you are off and a way to deal with any issues before you come back to work, and you saying you have a ATOS report shows you are doing that already.

If you are in the union speak to your rep, I think if you inform them that you are on holiday and will be unavailable for any contact it should not be a issue, the new attendance procedure is now more accommodating for both the individual and the business.
And if you do decide to go with being on A/L I would argue that both absences are linked so should not count as 2 separate periods.

I would also question the managers view on the ATOS report, they pay for it so they should take the recommendations ATOS are the medical experts not the managers, that's why the business use them.

Hope this helps.

Hi not sure I have worded myself properly, I have been told that if I stay sick they will deduct the days I should be on A/L from my A/L allowance but will only pay sick pay. If I take A/L and come off sick they will def count as 2 absences. Have spoken to Rep tonight and he has told me to stay sick as I could be in trouble as I have a note from doctor, but basically for the time I had originally booked off I will be both sick and on A/L but not paid as if on leave, we don't get our bonus when sick as it is a productivity and worked on head count.. thanks for the info
