Hire Vans

We have a fleet of about 15 vans in our delivery office and about 7 of them are white hire vans, they have come in to replace old and written off ones can anyone tell me why can't Royal Mail replace them with their own vans considering they have thousands sitting in a compound doing nothing rather than hiring them? What a waste of money!

They prob do not want to sign up for a new 3 yr lease agreement on vans with the forth coming sale.

We're all 05 license plates.

Keep thinking they must replace them soon but they never do.

Except when we write them off then they find another clapped-out 05 one from somewhere.

Apparently the stance on vans is that they are to do a 10 year service stint before replacement. Even though, due to the amount of work they are required to do, they aren't fit for much past 5 at the most.
But, according to them, it's cheaper.

We have just had 4 transit vans replaced in our office that were all 05 plates with brand new 13 plate vans, bluetooth/usb stereo's in them as well!

We have just had our 05 vehicles replaced with the rubbish FIATS.There is an 06 combi with 170,000 miles on the clock and just about falling apart it has still got to last at least one more year.My combi is 09 plate with 120,000 miles i reckon that by replacement time it will have nearly 250,000 miles on it.Iam suprised at the punishment they can take as a lot of our duties are off road.Ican not see the Fiats lasting so well.

In my office yes, but only RM liveried vans, not hire vans.

We are going through our revision as we speak
And have four small vans in our yard
We are a hub office, so some vans will needed for collections
I might well get a firms delivery ( providing there are still some )
But I presume there will be to many vans to fit in te yard

If the vans can't fit in the yard, then staff may be allowed to take them home under ONR-Over Night Retention.
There is paperwork to sign etc., and you may have to beat the managers to it.

I have been asked to do this, but refused. I've no doubt it won't be long before severe damage is done to a van and the postie will be blamed.

5 RM vans retained overnight in a council carpark were recently smashed to smithereens on a Saturday night, drivers were faultless because the paperwork was correct and they parked correctly, full cost of repairs was met by RM.
If you take a van home READ THE PAPERWORK!

In my office only me and one other as my finish point is nearly 45 miles from the office but only 6 miles from my house which i would drive past if i took the van back.plus it would mean an extra 50 mins travel time worked into my duty.

They would have to pay me the 50 mins overtime like they have to pay the floater.Or they could take 50 mins off my duty.
