Question to folks about working with someone

Okay I've read similar topics on this but I'd like to get peoples take on my situation and where I stand...

I've had some problems in the past with a colleague that extended out of work and got pretty personal. This included me visiting the police (no charges were made, just a friendly warning)..there was also damage to property of mine and other people I know (also unproveable) , that and harassment for an ongoing period. At the time the office managers were not really bothered about outside of work issues and opted just to keep us separated. I did nothing wrong but the guy was unstable and still is quite frankly, even though he hides it well. This has worked fine for me and for him as the office is pretty big.

Due to moving into a reserve position I fear that I may be asked to work with said person, should such a combination arise. It's unlikely due to being in different sections but possible and the stress of the situation is bothering me. I don't wish to work with someone who is intimidating and from what I've seen, dangerous. None of this can be proven really as it all happened outside of work for the most part, apart from police reports from a while back (if they were made).

I've thought about approaching my manager to discuss whether I can avoid such a possible combination of pairing, as I would be happy to take any duty at any time, as long as I didn't have to work in that combination. I know it would bother me tremendously but communicating this to managers is often met with deaf ears.

Is it acceptable to request managers, when making their rotas to pair me up with various people and not said person? Like I said I'd be more than flexible with any arrangement.

You can do this and your manager should be aware that it's possible.
Can't remember where it is but there is a document that is part of the revision process where managers may face this problem,don't let him fob you off.

I got forced to work with a bully ,,, I refused at first and then was taken in to office and given a dressing down!!! They knew I had a problem with this guy yet told me,,,,,I'm in charge ok!! Looking back I should have got this manager in trouble and I've still got all the notes etc .

Shared vans: people conflicts

Shared van working is based on two employees sharing a vehicle to deliver the mail for two routes. This method will be new to many people, appealing to some, but possibly unattractive to some. Whilst we do not envisage this should be a common occurrence there is the potential for clashes of personality to arise and, these issues will have to dealt with sensitively.

The best way of resolving these will be to talk with the individuals (separately if necessary) in an effort to get the bottom of the issue and find a mutually acceptable solution. In some cases it may have to be accepted that the only way forward is to find another pair who are willing to swap one person into a paired route.
