Hi everyone. I have just received news that I will be starting work next week :nana . Induction in Manchester then i'll be working out of the Rochdale sort centre. I have been given a 3 month, 24 hours a week contract. Does anybody on here work at the Rochdale depot? I'm just wondering what chance I have of working more hours and possibly gaining a more permanent contract in the future. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Firstly, Welcome :)

Get your feet under the table first before you ask about overtime etc, your body will take a pounding for the first couple of months until it gets used to it.

Contracts are short at first so if you are not upto the job you can be let go easier, however as long as you show you can do the job you have nothing to worry about, after two years you will be made permanent.

once, you can handle the OT there is normally some available in most DO's.

any other questions, don't be afraid to ask, we were all like you at one time :)

You will probably get overtime on top of normal pay.

Royal Mail like to give lower number of hours in contract to pay you less in bonus, door to door money, holiday pay and sick pay (after 12 months) and top up with overtime.

My advice is to keep job hunting and prepare for lots of bullying / harassment. They'll push you in the first few weeks to see how much extra work they can get out of you for free.

Cheers for the welcoming messages guys. I'm relishing the challenge. And all bets are off Steven100. I lasted 7 years working for the joke that is Yodel before being made redundent, i'm sure I can manage this. Some might say i'm a glutten for punishment, I just say i'm gullible! Anyways, it can't be as a bad or monotunous as the job I been doing for the last 3 weeks. Walking around an oversized fridge, talking to a headset all day that bosses me around! :arrrghhh
