Missorted my recorded. Hell to pay

Post by lofarl »

So I miss sorted a recorded the other week. Lo and behold I get back from holiday and because the customer complained that the packet was never delivered I'm getting put down the wilful delay/misconduct route. Is this solely because the customer made a complaint about his non delivery? I think being accused of wilful delay for what was unwillful is a but harsh, simply had not time to travel across busy city traffic at the end of shift to deliver it.

You should have told your DOM as soon as you could because if you dont it leaves you open to this sort of s**t. But it seems hes got it in for you as wilful delays a bit extreme as most offices have packets sitting around for days on end now. Get your union rep onto this , if hes not a good one get hold of your area rep.
Sickens me and most others that nowdays they seem to be gunning for everybody for any little mistake.
If your DOM wasnt there when you got back flag this up as how can you report ift if hes gone home. Im guessing it was delivered the following day?
Hope you get this sorted mate as you dont need this s**t hanging over you .
One last thing have you been told by your DOM what to do with missorts? If so has the whole office? If hes told you /office what to do IE scan them as you did he really hasnt got a leg to stand on.

I guess scanning it as inaccessible meant the customer would have been able to see online that it had been attempted. In our place that wouldn't have even been accidental delay let alone wilful just a simple missort that would wait until the next day. Also as already said what is your office missort agreement, if there isn't one this is something to bring up with your union rep and since you effectively had to cut off to make it back to the office on time i wonder if having never being told of the correct cut off procedure would help you out. Hope everything turns out well, they should never have taken it this far.

Well my logic was I have to scan it as something, since there is no Mis sort option on the PDA I felt I had to scan something. The annoying thing is having been honest has got me in this mess. If I had said "Yea there was a big dog about" that would have been the end of it. Telling the truth and saying yea I missorted it and never had time to deliver it has not been worth it. The thing about WTL etc, I never get them. Us part timers are supposed to by psychic and are expected to know all procedures when they are changed.

As for telling doms they are no where to be seen come 2pm

It was a recorded, why scan it at all? It's not like they are already in the system like SD's and have to be scanned as something. If you hadn't scanned it, they'd never have known.
That said, you have basically given them what they want, someone to discipline. And they will likely go for dismissal.
However, it obviously wasn't wilful or deliberate, though as you scanned as inaccessible, they may claim gross misconduct for dishonesty.
And the fact there wasn't a manager to ask the advice of is part of your defence.
And if you have never had a WTLL session ever, then unless the manager has come round on occasion with paperwork for you to sign, then they can't prove that they have told you what to do about missorts, or that any WTLL session took place with you in attendance.
Get the Rep/Area Rep in ASAP and good luck.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.

the first part of your defense is once you realised the missort you didnt have enough duty time to go back and deliver it
mis-sorts are inevitable in this job, mistakes happen as with any other job.
Secondly, you didnt put it in the system as delivered which Id agree could get you into big problems. You actually sincerely attempted to process it into the PDA as the closest thing you could to describe what it was that happened with this particular item. If the PDA doesnt have sufficient options to account for this particular incident I think you have a very strong argument you did your best with the tools given.

There was no need to scan it whatsoever! Scanning as something that it was not is what has got you into trouble. Even if it were a special delivery or tracked mail - you should never scan something as 'no access'. The customer might have stayed at home all day waiting for a piece of mail.

Having said that a Recorded delivery is just like a First Class mail but with a signature on receipt. If we deliver 95% of mail within the time frame, then we are doing well; and OFCOM and most customers know this.

Take your punishment with humility and move on. But note that there are some posties that actually abuse the system...

why on earth did you scan it as inaccessible. you SHOULD have just left it for the next day. you've opened yourself up for this. Imagine you were the customer waiting for that item wouldn't you be pissed that no one ATTEMPTED to do it (in their eyes). Should have left it for next day they aren't tracked or specials, just normal mail with a signature to prove its been delivered.
