ATOS referral

I have had carpal tunnel operations on both of my wrists, one in April and the other in May, so have consequently been on sick leave. My DOM paid me a home visit about 10 days ago to 'check on my progress'. I informed him that I had an appointment to see the surgeon the following week (last thursday) and that I didn't think I would be returning to work just yet as I still didn't have proper use of my hands and still had pain. He suggested that I could go back to work sooner that I was fit as I could take 2 weeks learning a couple of duties. I saw the surgeon and was given a certificate for another month which I sent to my DOM. I got a text message today from ATOS saying that they will be calling me next week. Will this be trying to get me to return to work before my certificate runs out or to see if my DOM has any plans for when I return to work?

As you have been signed off for another month,your DOM has done what most of them will/would do,they have contacted ATOS who will ring you next week with the view of conducting a telephone examination and depending on what you say they will contact your DOM either confirming what your surgeon said or maybe suggesting that you could return to work on light duties (Ha!Ha!).At this stage I wouldn't worry about it to much.Speaking from my own experience ATOS were brilliant and did a lot more for me than my DOM did.

Ask your Dim for consent form without your signature its called "Patient Confidentiality"and you dont have o discusss your condition.If Atos ring tell them you have not given signed consent .Makes our Dim look a rght cock

They can only make suggestions and you and your GP will know what your capabilities are,they did suggest that I went on light duties but my DOM said that there wasn't any so I stayed off sick.

If you have a sick note they can't make you go back to work..the interview will be about what what work you can do..I:e..light duties such as prepping D2Ds..walks..try to ease you back to work slowly

Your DOM is just following the new attendance procedure, I happened across a booklet the other day that explains what you and the Dom have to do, he is referring you to ATOS as part of the process, it's nothing to worry about, they certainly wont and can't overrule another Doctor or surgeon.

The DOM in my office tries to all the time. We just ignore them and the union bloke just says the advice of the surgeon/specialist etc. should be followed.
