Career Break Request (Form?)

Read similar threads on here but nothing really answers my questions so hope you dont mind i post here.

Been a postie for 8 years and really want a year out, maybe more.
Im only 26 and feel im kinda wasting my youth working 6 days a week (sa office) and just want an adventure, maybe go back to school to finish my exams.
Ive got plenty of plans in motion for this, but before i go to my DOM i wanna know my rights.

First of all, we dont get on too well, infact nobody seems to (people skills non existent)

HR say ask manager, CWU say submit a career break request form ? cant seem to find one.

What my next course of action after my DOM undoubtedly says no ?

If the CWU have told you to submit it, ask them (presumably you got the info from the Rep/Area Rep/Branch) where to get the form.

I am definitely gonna do this soon. Like the poster above though, not sure right now is the best time. Things seem a bit up in the air if you know what I mean..

I think they are according to the flexible working agreement.

I say this term loosely as im sure they turn down most requests, as for waiting im afraid its not an option.

If i dont get the career break, ill have to resign which i really dont want to do and obviously ill keep that to myself untill i get a solid answer.

Im sure they would still have to honor the career break once its signed, public or private, changes regardless.

Wish i did this years ago though.

Im guessing from the advice here, im gonna just have to go direct to my manager.

Can i do anything if its declined ?

I would carry on working for couple of months then you could see what happens and get EVR or career break and don't miss out privatisation bonus/shares and possible group profit bonus (assuming we get them). Maybe take a break after Christmas for a year or whatever.

Why would you have to resign if you don't get the career break?
