Our union rep. held a meeting on the gate today at 6.45 to duscuss the forthcoming consultation ballot, which is 15 minutes before shift starting time (well, for full timers). Only seventeen people bothered to turn up out of an office that employs about 240.

No one has there ballot papers in the DA offices like Dartford.

Had ours last Thursday, Handed out Friday and 100% sent off on Saturday.

One thing that is concerning me is the level of apathy over everything:

The ballot "What difference would it make"
Privatisation "Its going to happen whatever we do"
The Union "They are out of touch and caved in too early last time" and "They do nothing for us, but want us to strike for their own reasons"

I disagree with everything they say, but it does get wearing when you seem to be the only one fighting the Unions corner.

Part of the problem I think is that members feel the Union is too busy looking after its own organisation but not organising the membership until its an issue HQ want to push. Sad thing is to an extent I think they are right.

Part of the problem is that there are those at HQ that think that they are the only people seeing the big picture and that this gives them some kind of self-righteous freedom to continue down a certain path.

The truth is it can be far more dangerous in the union game to be right if your membership believe you are wrong than it is to be wrong with the full support of your members.
This means you have two options,you either attempt to engage,organise and educate your members towards your ideas or you just appease the membership with shiny baubles and big talk.

It shouldn't be that way but it is,without the support of the members the union is nothing but an expensive talking shop.
As I said there are those at HQ who think it's enough just to be "right" and to hell with the members.

If you're at work you should receive it at work.
If you're on leave when it arrives it will be sent to your home address.
It does seem to be taking some branches a while to get it sorted.

Not heard a thing from our Rep! I'm on holiday end off week(abroad) so I will probably miss my chance of voting.

some really worrying comments here, my area has seen every office have CWU meetings with all Ballot papers dispatched apart from those on leave or off sick. As the ballot papers are being done unit by unit, there is no hiding place when the results come in. Offices or areas where the work hasn't been done wil be identified.

The CWU will no doubt boast over 90% 'yes' for each of the four questions, but it won't count for much when less than half the members, or less than half the workforce, have voted.

Spoke to my postie where i live (not my office) and he had no idea there was even going to be a ballot, let alone the issues, and his a 24 year man
