sick day and now back to work

Hi guys im a relatively new starter to royal mail, been here for 4 months now and had my first sick day last week, i went back to work the following day and was told i wouldnt get a day off next week (meaning this week now) as i owe them a day? Also ive received a letter 'inviting' me to a meeting with my line manager because he saw me in the street on my sick day, which i was but only walked to the doctors, can anyone just shed some light on what im supposed to do? thankyou

you owe them Nothing, you will not get paid for your day's sick ( you will however after you have been with RM for a year ) you are still entitled to a day off this week and don't let them tell you otherwise.

the Meeting with your Line Manager is a " return to work " meeting, now called an Informal attendance Meeting ( or something like that ) and it's just to ask why you had the day off and that you are now fine to continue work etc.

you have nothing to worry about, just go in, listen and reply to any answers, and it makes no difference if you were seen on the street on a sick day, like you say, you were going to the doctors.

you dont recieve a letter for a back to work interview you are just asked in . my advice would be is to be firm with this dom stand up to the tw,,,,,

The letter is headed 'fact finding interview' and says 'to establish the facts and to determine if formal charges in accordance with the conduct code may be appropriate'. So now whats the worse that can happen?

Fact finding interviews are held to question the accused (you) about the situation at hand. And formal disciplinary proceedings can follow.
Take your Rep in with you, or a trusted friend, take any supporting documentation with you, i.e. doctors appointment card if you have one, or get the surgery to write a letter confirming you were attending an appointment in relation to your sick leave.
Technically, it could go all the way to dismissal. So make sure your Rep/Area Rep know about it.
It would appear a manager is attempting to impress someone above them. Knob.

if you are able to i would ask the receptionist at the dr surgery to provide proof of the appointment to be safe. also if you are in the union take a rep with you
