Runners / early starters causing problems for P/L

Post by eastie »

We have problems in our office with posties who have been coming in early, they are also not using trolleys and running and management are turning a blind eye. This makes them finish early and management have now taken people off of IPS and now get them to throw part time workers walk sorted off and the Part timers are now told to come in an hour later each day.
If everyone on P/L started at the right start time, used the equipment , meal relief and trolleys things would be a lot better.
All these runners are doing is taking hours out of the office .
We even have DOM's throwing rounds off to save money for their bonus :thumbdown
Just wait till some runner does an injury to his back.
RM will say "DID YOU USE YOUR TROLLEY THAT IS MANDATORY"

The exact same scenario has played out in our office, although most of the early starting morons have finally cottoned on to the fact that they are responsible for the slashing of indoor hours and are finally coming in at their proper start time. Not that it makes any difference now, seeing as the hours have already been taken out. :arrrghhh

you can tell them till you are blue in the face, they can`t see further than the nose on their face, their only target is to get in early get finished and go home, it won`t change, its been going on for as long as I have been a postie..28 years, and it wil continue.

Its almost a race to see who can finish early with the runners.
i just wish DOMs would grow a pair and get these morons to stay behind and do killoffs till their finish time or get them to wait until their proper finish time before they do their docket.
Another gripe is the early starters leave loads behind where they are starting early and miss sorts , redi's all get left behind.
But the DOM did a bag check last week and pulled me up on bringing a letter back but when I mentioned about the runners leaving 20 letters in the frame due to leaving early he just walked off, says it all really

Yep ours too, those of us who come in on time are subject to accusations of being slow, underperforming and holding back so we don't have to do lapsing, you don't see that in the courier!!

One of the posties I cover for comes in at least 1.5 hours before his time. The first time I went on his round, I told the manager I will need help with first box of mech on Monday and Tuesday because the round is a lot bigger than the associated round... Manager told me staight-up, X has never complained; if he could do it then you should be able to... And threats of performance test etc.

Whilst doing another round, I ended delivering to the postie's house... Yes, he finished around about 1.15 before me but he came on much much early. I saw the bloke from his window still in his uniform watching the telly. All that running and hassle for what? Loose Women, Jeremy Kyle or Cooking and Property programmes...

Start time on Tuesday 7.30am for FT staff.,and about 8.15 or even 8.20am for PT (32hrs) and finish time is 2.18pm (without break).

The bloke was in before 6.30am; even before some FT staff... Most FT staff come in early anyways and the Tuesday times just does not make sense for all esp PT - we have 5.5hours.

I have been tested twice, what they do is look at how much mail my walk gets, let the full timer do his 45 mins then count how much is left, they count packets that they say will go though letterboxes as letters!! so if the figures say that my prep should take 1hr 20mins that means that i have 35mins to put everything else in,2 rough bags,do redirections and tie up and do D2D'S,It's not doable even on a Tuesday.

It is almost undoable! It only works because we all come in early and do more work than we are paid for. But are we'collectively' ever going to do something about it. I do not think so.

Things tend to get confrontational very quickly with some people and you can never reason with some - yet they moan about the job, the managers and their colleagues. MAN IN THE MIRROR!

My advice to everybody is -if a manager is pulling you for being to slow on prep in short bullying .Check what time early starters sign in and what time they are going out ,then check how long it takes you . As in my case they were always getting at me about being last out until I brought it to there attention in that way needless to say they don't bother me !!

I don't let it bother me too much,I can do my job as fast as 90% of the office it's just that I refuse to come in early so what can they do? in short nothing.
