Urgent Domestic Distress:

Jimmy Carr`s laugh wrote:So I get 1 day, so tommorrow I have to go work, and leave my 6yo and 7yo on their own till 230pm! I cant afford to lose £80 for a days work, and I cant give any of my future leave up as its all booked in for school hols when I have no childcare.

Looks like im screwed
Exceptional circumstances might warrant 3 days with pay. A death, child in Hospital and no child minder - that's exceptional in my book.

Apart from the possibility of losing money i'd try not to worry too much about work. When you go back after your week off you should be a lot clearer in your head about things.
Hopefully your dom will give you 1 or 2 of the days off as special leave with pay.
Don't worry at all about not going in on Saturday,i'm sure they will cover your round on overtime or something, your family comes 1st anytime.

Sorry about your loss, but 1 day is all you get, he isnt immediate family, and this has always been right, had he been your father you would of been giving more. I understand this is a hard time for you, but this is a time when fmilies stick together and help eachother out, surely theres friends or sisters brothers etc on both sides that could help out. Some managers can be stuck up, but some are willing to help out. There is a card you could play, if managers are gonna screw u around, then that could put you at tipping point towards stress. Surely on both sides theres got to be some give and take. But i hope you get it sorted. Also feel fortunate that you get time off during the holidays. I neevr get it but i have to struggle to get cover for my kids.

Anyways all the best and hope this situation runs to your benefit.

Some managers can be twats though, i couldnt even get 1 day off that i needed and never asked for anything. Dont put up with the lac of cover s**t, theres always spare staff at surrounding offices that can cover mate. Good luck :thumbup

Sad news and Royal Mail need to work on looking after the staff better.

If I were the boss I would give you a week off and don't expect you back until Monday 10th June.

If you cannot get what you need. Then E-mail Moya. It does work as I have used it before.

BTW: My Father-in-Law died earlier this year .

I had to leave my round halfway through when my wife called and said it was serious. ... No problems from management

I obviously needed a couple of days off around the funeral. .. Again no problems

Maybe it is how sympathetic your managers are?

This is the way one Manager explained it to me, it is reasonable to expect the employee to make an arrangement during their allowed one day off for childcare for any further days.
When asked if we should give a little more consideration in their time of need the reply was, "If their friends and family cannot help them out in their time of need then their beef is with their friends and family not with their employer".

I was in a similar situation. Two managers in my office, one wouldn't give me any time off and the other allowed me one day for the funeral. I guess its how considerate the manager is. As has been mentioned, I was told it doesn't count as immediate family.

Shocking the way RM treat their staff in my opinion. In any other job I've had I know for a fact I'd be allowed a reasonable amount of time off without hesitation or questions from management

Coffin may be carried at waist level if there is a disparity in height, its more awkward though as the weight is all on one arm. The other solution is to have the 2 tallest at the rear, the next 2 tallest at the front, and the shortest pair in the middle. The height disparity unless its extreme is not so obvious.

On the suit - check with the Funeral Home, they may know a local tailor that rents suits, like Moss Bros.
