Going sick for a holiday

I'm looking at going away for about a week sometime later this year but there are no more than 2 day blocks available in our office until next April I'm pretty determined to go away, so has anyone have any experience of going sick for a holiday?
I wouldn't mind going on a stage as I've managed to avoid any stages so far, but if they find out, is it sackable?

Be warned....a couple of guys from our office did this....then we all had letters from the manager saying he will be phone up and come around the house if he suspects people that are on sick leave maybe on holiday

Its true they will phone your home number to see how you are doing and checking up on you.

TBH its a big risk getting a warning this close to the forth coming sell off.

Just do it, if the try contact you just think of some story as to why they couldn't get through go you, make sure your mobile dont have a foreign ring tone if you're going abroad. I know people who have done it, one even went off with stress and got a doctors note saying a holiday would benefit his recovery

I can get a Fri and Sat off in September, so I may try and get a flight on Thurs night, then phone in on the Monday and claim I have missed my return flight, therefore will be a few days late back

Our union rep did it,he booked one week off was away for two, everyone knew even the DOM. Nothing happened to him.

people have played the sickie game for years.To be honest on deliveries, it can be beneficial to to have an extra break, as at times you work like mules. Personally i dont condone it, but there are times like when your colleague shares are taken away through creative accounting,or management somehow produce just enough profit to trigger their bonuses through creative accounting that you end up feeling quite queasy

Also dangerous - at some point a mate will let slip with an innocuous comment at work, or you'll forget and make a facebook post and someone will comment on it, it will then appear on their timeline and someone else makes a comment and he may be a mate of the DOM.

A DOM I used to know was off sick for a week, but was then seen on Blackpool beach (about 120 miles away)with his kids. He returned to work to find his office door adorned with buckets, spades and seashells. People also kept humming "I do like to be beside the seaside" that day as well.

To the OP, absences in RM are always treated as genuine. I don't know what evidence they would need to treat you any differently. Just make sure you don't tell anyone about it, on Facebook or in the real world.

True, but the new owners will probably bring that in regardless of what people get up to now. RM make it so difficult for people to take holidays when they want, much more than those in higher paying jobs, that they must expect some abuse of their sickness procedures as a consequence.
