colleague passed Driving test today..can he now drive for RM
OR has he got to drive a certain period of time before being allowed to drive one of Royal Mails vans?

He has to apply to take what is know as a "change over" which is just another driving test without the theory bit.

As long as he passes the conversion with an approved instructor, organised by the company, then yes.
Though, he/she may want to think it over before making themselves available.
If they want to drive for RM, then speak to the manager about it, and take it from there. Can open up opportunities for OT.

I joined in January and before I was allowed to drive I had to sit a two hour driving evaluation. The evaluator was a former Police advanced driver.
It was really good, interesting and well worth doing, not that I had any choice.
