Attendance Meeting after 1 day off sick

I've been asked to go to an attendance meeting after been off sick for 1 day. I recently raised a complaint against my manager and on the back of this I went off sick on Tuesday with work related stress,got a std sick letter sent and later that day I recevied a recorded delivery hand delivered by my manager to attend a meeting to discuss my absence. I have had 3 days sick 1 period over 12 months. Spoke to HR for assistance who advised this was the incorrect procedure who then advised to speak back to DOM to advise correct procedure. After speaking to DOM he has passed this to a regional manager to take the matter further. Anyone know why this would be done? On the back of this my meeting with the regional manager has been set for tomorrow! Not even 24 hours notice. I welcome any help with this.

hm not sure what "attendance meeting" means ... are you talking about something different than a return to work meeting, which is standard procedure ?

on reflection it could be if the reason given for absence was "work related stress" the business obviously has to investigate this type of claim and find out the issues for it.

whatever you do go in with a rep, get everything witnessed and recorded.

Complaint against a manager says it all, they'll try and make your life hell and go by the book on everything.

I know it's scary, but allowing them to dictate the terms puts them in a position of strength and tells them that your willing to be coerced.
Inform your Manager and the DSM that you are grateful for their quick response to your concerns but but will unfortunately be unable to attend at such short notice without having the benefit of adequate advice and representation. Let them know that you will be happy to rearrange the meeting at a mutually convenient time in future.

Find out from them what they actually mean by attendance meeting.
The new attendance procedure states to start with, an informal interview to discuss your sickness and doesn't require representation.
formal interviews obviously do and you should have time to arrange this representation, 48 hours off the top of my head?

Anyone who takes the rep in at our office gets the full punishment available and people have been told as much after they've been given the warning.

I went off with stress about 18 months ago. Got a similar letter on my first day off demanding that I come in for an "informal" meeting with the DOM the next day. I was in no fit state for that, so I looked up the attendance procedure to see where I stood. The old one clearly stated that that the business couldn't ask the employee in for a meeting/interview in the first two weeks of absence. Told em in not so many words to leave me alone.

No idea if anything has changed in the new procedure though. RM managers will usually try anything they think they can get away with though.
