We are in the process of having a repick but I'm a little confused as to what, if any, rules there are to it.

It seems that full time (39 hour) people are picking whatever they want ie 24 hour duties which I thought were for part time staff.

My queries are this:

1. If a 39 hour person picks a 24 hour duty will they have their contracts reduced to 24 hour and those extra hours go to 24 hour people who want them?

2. I'm on a 24 hour contract. If I get to pick a duty thats more then that will I get a different contract with more hours or book overtime every week?

When it happened at our DO, there was an FT List and PT list of duties, FT workers could only pick FT duties, PT workers only could pick PT duties. Simples.

if you are 24 hr contract you can ONLY sign for a 24 hr Duty and you do that in seniority order of the 24 hr people. However if a 39 hr duty wants to pick a 24 hr duty they have to change their contract and then a 39 hr contract comes up for grabs and the most senior PTimer can pick it, if they don't want it it then goes down in seniority order of PTers. comprehendo?

If the outdoor spans are the same then why have a f/t and p/t list of duties. Why can't number 1 on seniority pick first then so on. Any full timer who picks a duty does indoor hours to make them up to full time. Simples.

I have been working for 8 years and there is no repick yet but it might come this year when there is van sharing coming

After the revision, we have had postie of less than one year getting a walk...

Well I have asked for a regular partner in Van shares due to deaf issues so hopefully this will mean I get a walk of mine

Because our P/L setup has PT/FT combos, where the FT postie preps both his and the PT walk frames, this is why. Otherwise you would end up having PT/PT combos and no one to throw it out, even if a FT worker was to throw out a PT/PT combo, there is no incentive for him to rush to get it thrown up in time as his round would be up and prepped by his FT partner regardless. It is mainly to stop FT workers looking out for No.1 as usual and have the PT posties walks thrown out for a change. Simples

You needed at least 12 years to get your own walk in our office. I've done 16 years and have only just broken the top 50 on the seniority list.

You must be in a very big office... FT/PT combo is definitely a good thing. Double-preppers not prepping a walk that they are associated tend not to do a good job... But I will really love it if Ptimers actually come in dead on their time so the FT staff will have to really prep almost all the second walk. Here is hoping!

They will only do that if the IWT gives them enough time to do it.
Very rough figures would be....

1hr 35mins to prep and tie down there own walk including D2D,redirections and picking up specials PDAs etc.....and load the van.
40 mins meal relief.
30 mins travelling to and from delivery.
10 mins for end of delivery tasks.
4 hrs 15mins delivery.

On a standard 39 hr week that leaves 38 mins to "prep almost all the second walk".

By setting the performance figure (bsi) at 100 they'll be saying you have plenty of time, but set it at the actual office performance then the figures above are more realistic.

I got my pick on saturday. I had a choice of reserve driver covering 2 duties or Driver on a van share. Did think I'd get a pick like that when I've only been there a year.
