I am currently on sick leave as I have had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands. The first was done early April when I was given a certificate for 4 weeks then as that certificate was coming to an end I had the other hand done and was given a second certificate for 4 weeks which takes me up to 30th May. I got a text from my D.O.M. yesterday asking if I would be about on Thursday or Friday this week as he needs to do a home visit to check on my progress. This is the first time he has contacted me since I have been off. I was just wondering if this home visit is normal practice?

surely he can get all the information he needs over the telephone. If not send him some paperwork from your hospital.
Home visits are not compulsary anyway even under the new agreement it has to be a mutual thing

if he continues just ask them to ring your doctor for his opinion. we all know what the doctor will say. if they continue take out a grievence for harassment saying it is making your condition worse but see your doctor first. play them at their own game

I wish I was brave enough to tell him that he is not welcome in my home, but I fear the backlash when I do return to work. You know how some managers use their position to make life difficult for you when you have upset them! Anyway, he is making his home visit tomorrow and I'm interested to see what he has to say. If it's anything of interest I will post it on here.

This happened to someone in my unit today, he was advised by the CWU rep to politely decline the managers visit, saying that he was able to discuss his illness over the phone and that he wasn't up for a face to face meeting.

Well I had my home visit, which was a waste of time really. I told him that I have an appointment with the surgeon next week and that I wasn't fit to return to work yet. He suggested that I could return to work a couple of weeks before I am fit enough to do the job as I can spend 2 weeks observing 2 walks that I need to learn. He is referring me to atos, so I should be hearing from them next week. Thank you all for your comments.
