739 card anomoly?

When filling out part of the 739 there are 3 choices,1the item needs a signiture,2 the item is to big for letterbox,3 unable to gain access. Has anyone ever ticked 3? If you cant gain access how could you deliver the 739? I've asked everyone at work including the line managers and the standard reply is "I've never noticed that choice on the card before how long has it been there!!" Has anyone ever used it?

only time ive seen it used is if a driver is unable to get into a block of flats that only i have a key for and they ask me to deliver a card the following day

i occasionally use that box when a secured entry door is locked and cannot access a delivery point, i fill out the card and pop it under the door, that way the householder gets to know that i tried to deliver and there is a problem gaining access to their flat

Yeah that was suggested at work but the line manager said it was a no-no as anyone could pick up the 739.

but then they would still need the appropriate ID to collect the item

and we do delivery to communal letter boxes anyway

I ticked it once when an above shop flat had a packet, with just a small letterbox stuck on the gate. There was no way to knock on the door (since the gate was locked) and there was no bell on the gate. So I ticked the item is too large and the unable to gain access box, just so if they complained about me not knocking, I could say it was because it wasn't possible.

It did it another time in a building with controlled entry and 3 flats inside. They have a letter box on the outside, but obviously we're not meant to use it. I'd attempted delivery twice, and on the third day I put the P739 through saying unable to gain entry. Manager was fine with it when I got back.

We use it for the tenement flats in our area. If you are unable to access the set of flats due to no service button access or no answer from residents, then we tick the no access box, and attempt to deliver the 739 the following day.

It's also used as previously mentioned by PD drivers, for the same scenario for a parcel that would normally fit through the letterbox if access was obtained.

I used it recently at an address that had a dog loose and a large parcel- filled the form out, endorsed the letters dog loose, TBT, 31 Jan 13 Walk 15 - left the packet in the callers office and delivered the letters and form the next day.

More confusion for Callers staff is items that are flats (A4) some posties put tick letter, some packet, many nothing, and we have to second guess the postie......
If only life was to be really enjoyed and simple for us all :)

You would think its that easy Gand, but most delivery guys fook that one up. And no I don't write anything in there as I work IN the callers office, and have to second guess what delivery staff might mean!
