Struggling due to stress
Just some advice please if possible on how to best deal with this. I do suffer with an anxiety dis-order but have always been able to manage it to a certain degree and it hasn't interfered with my work. Unfortunately this is no longer the case and i am really struggling mainly due to the physical and mental demands being placed on me due to a failing delivery methods revision for the last nine months. I have been staffed to one of the walks that has an acknowledged problem but still on an almost daily basis have to argue to either leave some of my delivery or not to lapse part of another. To be honest i feel physically and mentally exhausted. I have informed my line manager but wondered what other steps i can take as i genuinely dont want to spend weeks on the sick but feel its almost inevitable. We have no rep due to the fact he himself spent weeks on the sick after all the stress caused dealing with problems due to b&h from the managers and the area rep rarely visits despite being very aware of the situation. Infact a withdrawal on mass from the cwu from our office was threatened and a special meeting was called but that was in early February and we have heard nothing since. Promises keep being made about a PIR which obviously should have happened months ago but nothing ever happens.

When we get to the Area and Div rep arena you surely have to question their integrity in dealing with members problems - we haven't seen an area or div rep in years but I'll bet they're a common sight in the dining room with the ASM/DSM "negotiating". The state of Denmark springs to mind.arthur was right wrote:Again I honestly ask this question WHERE THE HELL IS THIS UTTERLY WEAK AND SPINLESS UNION. THIS IS UTTERLY SHAMELESS.

Re: Struggling due to stress
I would not suggest that you take time off work as sick for a mental health issue related to your work without first ensuring that you have a auditable trail for having previously informed work of the problem.
Once again inform your Line Manager, using email for the audit trail for the notification, CC your DOM, DSM and Area IR & Safety Reps.
You shouldn't be tackling this problem simply as an IR issue, it's also a Health and Safety issue. Your reaction to the environment needs addressing first and foremost whilst the more drawn out IR problems are looked into.
In the email ensure that you inform the resipients that your are struggling and why you believe that may be. Make mention of your mental health history and request an ATOS referral.
A verified mental health issue is covered as a disability under the equality act so your Manager should make reasonable adjustments for you.

Re: Struggling due to stress
no easy answers to dealing with anxiety but heres a few suggestions
1.see your doctor
2.assess what(if any )meds would help+if you could still work whilst using them
3.try and pinpoint the triggers and see if they can be resolved with management
not always possible
your employer has a duty of care
as do you
keep a record of everything-not just to cya but it can help you to find solutions
finally-and itll sound like a cliche but try and remember youre not alone....and sometime things can be worked out....try counselling/meds etc try not to self medicate with beer tho-can cause more problems
hope that helps
