To be honest i believe 99% of members will say yes but ask them to say yes to a possible strike and loose further money and a poor pay deal i believe you will get a no vote

TBH I don't know why there is a consultative ballot - just ask the real question "Are you prepared to take industrial action over the issues outlined" a straight question requiring a simple yes or no. In truth I would have preferred a consultative ballot on the organisation of the CWU.

Once you have balloted your members for industrial action, that ballot only remains live for a certain amount of time.
A consultative ballot will put back the date for the actual ballot, (meaning hopefully the IA won't be over the summer months) but at the same time gives the negotiators a stronger hand when talking too RM.
Given the current economic climate I would want those negotiators to do everything they can to avoid calling us out on strike.

I don't think asking if people are prepared to take industrial action is a ballot - get each branch to do a straw poll of each and every office instead of wandering round with a toothless consultative ballot.

I think the whole boycott thing is a bit disingenuous. (unless it is a ploy to provoke a strike)
What role does a union play if it adopts a long-term policy of non-cooperation?
I'd take a 1 year above inflation pay deal. Given the rather uncertain future I think anything longer than 1 year is a bit hopeful.

How long, given the challenging geographical nature of some Branches, do you think your straw poll would take? And I don't think you could do it on RM property.

Odd that each branch has everyones home address when it comes to election addresses but they couldn't drop a line asking if there was to be a call for IA which method of action they would prefer - hardly rocket science. TBH clash out of 160,000 members if the odd 50 from a geographically challenged office was missed and those votes were required to carry the vote I'd be worried about the longevity of the action.

Correct but you would have to assume if there was an affirmative and it came to hey lads hey - what would be the point of the straw poll if there was no intention of following through with an official ballot and if 50 votes was the decider........................

Obviously some people are incapable of following a plot - it's really simple - poll, affirmative, ballot, poll, negative, no ballot.
