may 13 is the date when things could go pear shaped at last area meeting we where told that this date was given to royal mail as a dead line for the pay talks to come up with some thing iam not holding my breath though !!!!!

How is it all talk all members will have their say from the 22nd may . Now if some of you are right members won't back the union then we will be able to tell . On the other hand some of us are out meeting the members and will be meeting the members in different work places and I have to say the vast majority are supportive and know the dangers of being sold off , unfair competition , want a fair pay deal and don't accept Royal Mail's vision for the future.

The consultation ballot will expose where we are strong and weak as the numbers on the ballot papers will inform the union . Then it will be those areas which the union needs to target if we decide to ballot .

even tho we were shafted by the union last time we should all still stick together this time and give the union one last chance to show us the are going to look after us all . it will be there last chance with everyone one this time if we are shafted again but that is what royal mail is hoping for lets all stick this one out and get what we a owed and some better ways of working i hope

Well it's now May 8th and I'm still waiting for a visit from a Div or Area Rep who will explain the nuances of the consultation paper - you see I find it inconceivable that the union don't already know which are the weak areas. I take it from your post that the weak areas will be those who don't support industrial action and/or don't share RMs vision of the future...............however I haven't seen any credible alternative other than a bland statement that RMs vision is not the only future available. It may well not be and probably isn't but it would be handy to have a well thought out and financially viable alternative.

We now get to the nub of the matter, what does the future hold for the CWU if there isn't a positive outcome to the consultation?

Which is a fairly depressing thought - not that I am your Dad Glenno but what the future holds for members of the CWU if they cannot galvanise the troops into an affirmative consultation/ballot and really one is pretty much the same as the other. If the finger of the union was truly on the pulse of the members a consultation would be totally unnecessary, which is indicative of how far removed from the grass roots the whole organisation above unit rep is.
