My Dom recently has became agitated with my stance in these, in that if he has any proposals for the office, I then ask for it in writing, feedback to the members, get their view, a yes or no if required, then get back to the Dom with an answer.
He seems to think, I should make a snap decision there and then.
Surely the point of a rep is to represent and put members views across, not be a one man decision maker!
somethings you can discuss without speaking to members as you already have all the information to talk about it, ie lapsing plans, your office will have an agreed model week traffic and depending by how much above or below that you will be able to agree to what days lapsing may be done, you dont need to get members agreement on that prior to every meeting as they have already agreed the model week traffic and you will be able to see clearly on the spot if there is scope for lapsing or if not
You surely have a mandate from your members to decide some things.
If he shows you the staffing for next week, surely you don't take it away and discuss it with all your members and then come back with an answer?
What sort of things does he want snap decisions on?

not really best way, if the figures support the possibility of lapsing then its not really appropriate to put in an official disagreement regardless, you might end up getting one correctly lodged about yourself, you really should ask someone like another rep in your office who seems to know what he is doing what you should or shouldnt be doing in a resource meeting

Our mail figures are pure fantasy, the Dom and linos can tell me we will lapse 1000 jobs but when reality is far different from the "mails down" figures I will say no and stick by the members, when I have no spare time, but the Dom, iwt, planner, Ronald McDonald and moya say I have time to absorb, I won't believe a word that comes out of their mouths.

but the figures are there in black and white, if your disagreeing to lapse when it is appropriate to do so then your leaving yourself wide open to him
and dont forget lapsing is also for your staffs benefit, if appropriate it can free up extra annual leave spaces for someone to get a week in the summer

Free up and extra slot, don't make me laugh, we don't even have enough holiday slots to get our time in.
More chance of seeing my Dom do a full delivery than see another holiday slot appear.

I've already proven his figures are up to 30% light, and the planning values seem a little "stretched"
My 4.5 hour delivery takes near 6@ model week, yet planned for 4.5@model

Hence cut offs in our office every day
the model week traffic is mainly about indoor time and how long it will take your office to sort mail indoors before you go out, its not that thats making the outdoor element not work (yes the traffic figure will have a bearing on the outdoor timespan but not to the degree your making it out to be) and again thats down to you, and i believe from your posts you had about 5 months full time release to help with the revision.......
