Meal Reliefs......
Whilst killing time before being allowed to leave the building as only our manager seems to do..
we were reading that we could have a split 20/20 min break....
Does anyone know if this is still the rule or has it been updated ?
as we are made to take 40 mins in one go and with no canteen and only the car park to go locally
40 mins is a long time to eat a sandwich!

It might depend on your work plan and the time of your wave 2 arrival, but yes , in theory you can have a split 20/20 break.
20 minutes prior to dispatch and 20 minutes later or at the end of the duty.

The problem is the union want us to have 40 in one go...we used to have 20 go on delivery then go home 20 early...
just in process of revision not completed faze 4 but saying that have been for 2 yrs now
The union whom put the meal relief details on the board...says it commenced 2000....
So not sure if it has been superseded....anyone?

Meal reliefs...Wot are these??? Our Bod likes telling us, "You're finishing at xxx time today so you can do xyz."
Then, it's a case of saying there's NO WAY that xyz is gonna be done, taking into account a planned break - which is rarely taken. ( Yep, I know the Work yer Hours Mantra.) They NEVER take these into account...only wot they "feel/think" can be got outta the office in the Wonderful Fantasy World of RM Deliveries.

Toilet breaks...Gotta use bushes, lanes to take a pee. God knows wot wud happen if u get caught short for a No 2!

Im sorry to hear you manager is an idiot, we have had many of them in our times,
You know our favorite song....bring it back....
Im just finding it hard fighting the union and management at the same time.....
They think because you have a blue shirt on your brain has been removed and wont ask questions....
But cant believe we have been taking 40 mins for a month..when we may not have had too...

@paulaq, I would be reporting this to the Area Safety Rep as soon as possible.

The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations, states that employers must provide ‘suitable and sufficient’ welfare facilities for the well-being of their employees while at work. As far as this Topic is concerned, there should be a suitable seating area for workers to use during breaks. They must be clean and well lit and ventillated and located where food will not get contaminated. There must be an area for eating and drinking with a way of getting a hot drink, (e.g. kettle or vending machine), a way of heating food, (e.g. microwave), if hot food can not be purchased nearby and a supply of clean drinking water, (either tap or bottled).

If you're having a revision then I would recommend having the full 40 as it may help out in your revision. Those of us who already had our revisions wish we had the chance to turn back time and take our full break so our duties wasn't made so long.

You and me both. Partly I think it's down to people trying their hardest to keep the job done-and-home mindset.
