Should i feel this way?

Hi,

Just completed my first 3 months, i cover a different duty each week whilst someone is on annual leave...Mondays & Tuesdays are normally part time hours whilst Wednesday to Saturday i tend to get full time hours to prep 1 - 1 1/2 walks. 12 weeks in and i still feel slow in all aspects compared to my colleagues, regarding prep i find it manic getting everything ready to go whilst on the walk i feel pressure to not leave the other regular duty holder waiting (Which i regularly do!).

Is this still normal 3 months in and does anybody have any tips that can speed me up? I find that if i try to rush i just make mistakes on prep & walks, whilst advising seems to take me an age compared to others....next week both duty holders are off and i will be full time all week working with a part time cover, i just hope i can get everything prepped in time!

Thanks for any advice that can be given....

By the way i absolutely love the job, just can't wait to have a duty of my own but understand that could take a long time, right?

If you cover a different duty each week then the simple answer is that you will never achieve the same prep rate as the regular duty holder, becuase when you are on the same duty for a long time you get to know the frame intimately, like a beautiful woman you met on holiday who followed you back to your hotel room to show you her tanlines.

its easier to box a duty in when the mail is sequenced. it WILL come to you in time. the senior ''vicer'' in our office does 5 duties in his rota. he can box mine in as fast as me (and i am fast on prep),,,,,if they put you all over the place then it will take longer to learn more duties. chill oot

You are doing fine KnocKnock - A person on a fixed duty can take about 6 to 12 weeks to bed in and with you being a reserve thats more likely to take longer. When I first started I was reserve and it took about 6 months to start finishing on time. The best advice I can give is to get a small pocket size notebook and well make notes for each duty, that should help you a bit.

Changing walks weekly is a nightmare and your never really going to get any real speed together. I think your doing fine.

One of our new starters who started just after xmas was placed on my delivery for a week. He was in at 9am with the round fully prepped and was still not finishing till around 6pm. One bad day was actually 6.40pm

Now that is slooooooow

I used to think like this, always worried I was holding others back, trust me, it comes in time, Im a floater and most frames I can put up in no time, but there is one it takes ages no matter how many times I prep it.
