long and short im leaving for Australia one way on the 31st august, so ive put in to cancel all my leave before hand as im a 25hour contract but do a full timers hours every week in overtime. So i make more money working than on my week off on leave.
the manager in charge of holidays has informed me they wont let me do that or let me leave with any days owed to me (i have about 27!) so when i resign on the 1august i will be on leave for a month before i OFFICIALLY part ways with RM on the 31st. (i hope that makes sense)
do i have to abide by that? I was hoping to wokr right up until my leaving day, maximising spending money when im away and then have any holiday i have accrued paid to me...obviously this is a bit annoying as ill lose out on quite a bit of potential over time etc...
ive been with the company 3years 4months btw.
any info, please.

Pretty sure it's illegal to 'pay you for holidays' when you have an entitlement. You must take holidays in other words.

You should have kept quiet.
You only need to give a week's notice and with 27 days left they would have to have paid out.
Can they make you take your leave..yes.
Are you sure you have 27 days outstanding?
Remember you will only accrue leave for this year up until your leaving date which is only 5 months worth.

i probably havent, to be fair im just going by what my leave sheet has, and im assuming that is for the year im going to work... plus i had 5days carried over.
frustrating really, but he asked and i told him, plus id asked for a sabbatical and was turned down so it was common knowledge anyway really.

You will probably have about 9 days plus your 5 carried over...14 days in all.
In your situation I would either take them as soon as possible to give you time to make up the lost money or try to stall picking them in the hope that he's short staffed in the run up to your leaving date and needs you.

thanks for advice, he (holiday allocator) said ill hold onto this sheet for now, and let you know what is likely to happen before he officially inputs so hopfully, nothing! haha.
ive taken a week already this year and have a holiday booked for another 5 in july. so hopefully ill just take that week and the other four days (assuming your calculations are correct)
then im outta here! its a shame, i actually dont mind the job (never saw the good old days) and personally think the jobs easy, just work your time and do what you are supposed to and you cant get any agg, well i havent
