Robbery and stabbing

Post by mojothefishmo »

A week or so ago my daughter and her friend were robbed at knife point,my daughter tried to fight back but ended up being thrown to the ground ,had her head stamped on and knifed twice in the shoulder
I was in hospital till 3.00 am the following morning with her ,as she went through chest xray and a cat scan
I took 2 days off to look after her as im a single parent ,i thought id been given those 2 days as payed special leave but it now turns out my so called manager wants a meeting with me to discuss why i had the days off
Im assuming they want to avoid paying me as i was oringinally told by union rep it was one day paid and either a liuw day or unpaid
Im really stressing over this what was i suppose to do shes my daughter and that comes before anything ,it just so happens my annual leave was directley after the incident so no dout theyll hold that against me ,i really hate this company ive had enough

I forgot too add where do i stand with this as i cant afford to lose pay

Time off to deal with an emergency or if your child is ill

You have the right to take a reasonable amount of time off work to deal with an emergency involving someone who depends on you. An emergency can include your child or relative falling ill or being injured, a problem with your childcare arrangements or your child being involved in an incident at school.

You should not be penalised by your employer for taking time off, as long as your reasons are genuine. Your employer does not have to pay you while you are off work.

You can only take as much time as is needed to deal with the emergency off. For example, if your child is ill and cannot attend school, you can take time off to arrange someone to care for them. You do not have the right under this rule to take extended time off work to care for them yourself.

What is reasonable will depend on the circumstances of the emergency, but one or two days is typical. If you need to take more time off you should discuss this with your employer and may wish to consider taking annual leave.

As far as I can 2 special leave catergories fit and in both in EXCEPTIONAL circumstances 3 days special leave is possible - but it doesn't clarify if all are paid - these are taken from the policy document at the top of the linked page.

FAMILY MEDICAL PROBLEM

Urgent indicates an immediate need, the provision with pay should normally be one day, with further days unpaid or covered by holiday entitlement. Exceptional circumstances might warrant 3 days. Where regular treatment is occurring the employee should try and get appointments outside work hours and Post Office Ltd should help by arranging changes to working hours wherever possible. Managers should treat requests for additional time off with sympathy bearing in mind that a stoppage of pay will add to the stress of hospital treatment.
It should be noted that taking someone to hospital for an arranged appointment is not Special Leave A, but should be taken as Unpaid or Annual Leave.

URGENT DOMESTIC DISTRESS

Forms should not be forwarded with Urgent Domestic Distress as a reason. An explanation is required. There may be times when the employee would not want the reason for Special Leave A or C to be written on the form. If the Line Manager feels that this is warranted then “Confidential Agreed” should be written but he/she should be aware of the true reason.

They are the worst type so you have my sympathies. A least with a total barsteward you know going in whats likely to happen, a flip flopper is far more difficult to deal with.
