What a difference!

Let me make this clear I am not on here to brag or anything just wanted to show people that there is life after RM!

I have been in my new job a few months now, and I love it. Yes I'm on £1 an hour less than RM, but I have got a pay rise in September which will take me to 30p less an hour than RM. I work term time only so 16 weeks holidays a year and its only mon-Fri.

Now for the thing that shocked me the most. I was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks after starting my new job. Fear of losing my job (6 month probation) made me keep it from work and I worked all my appts round work time (I finish at 2). Unfortunately i had to tell work in the end as I need surgery (which I am sat waiting for to happen at 3.30 this afternoon). The hospital have told me I need 2 days off after the surgery to recover. I went to my bosses explained the situation and the response I got was amazing. They didn't think 2 days was long enough to recover so told me to take all of this week off (I would of gone back in Fri) as that will give me nearly a week to recover due to the bank holiday.

Yes they would of been heartless to kick off with someone with cancer but to go above and beyond really surprised me! I am getting sick pay and they have categorically stated in writing that this will in no way affect my probation checks.

Anyone wondering about life after RM get applying for lots of different jobs. Your eyes will be opened that the world is not full of bullying twats who think their job is to make your life hell. There are very decent human beings out there!

I really wish you well with your illness, im sure royal mail wouldn't have been so understanding as far as time of is concerned. I left rm 2 years ago as I was so fed up with the harassment and aggravation. There is life after royal mail, I live in devon now right on the coast and own my own gift shop. I look back on my time therte as a waste and thoroughly regret having worked there. good luck and best wishes to you

Sorry to learn about the cancer scare ex femalepostie. Hope everything works out for you with your health and new job. I recall reading some of your posts about how you were treated before you left. Did you write to anyone to complain and did you get a response?

I wrote about a week ago, as that was how long it took RM to finally stop everything and me to pay the money back to them. The DOM still hadn't told HR I had left. So even though I wasn't paid for the few months I was still getting payslips etc... An absolute joke lol.

I wanted to be able to add how long it had taken them to sort everything out in the letters. I will update you when I hear.

I think it depends on your dom I had skin cancer, a small opp. on my neck with 9 stiches and my dom gave me the week off as he said my health comes first, not all dom's are bad some do have a heart.

Not all RM bosses are bad though. My mates wife had cancer and the DOM let him have time off to take her to treatment appointments and pretty much whenever he needed it, all on full pay.

As in every walk of life, some people are decent human beings and some or not. There are alot of bad managers in RM it is true, but not all of themare completely heartless!

One of my work colleagues wife had cancer for about 3 or 4 years, fought it off a couple of times. But, it got to the point where they were told she has 4/5 weeks tops and nothing can be done.
When the DOM was informed, and was asked for compassionate leave until after the inevitable, his response was that he expected the guy into work immediately.
The lino, who is a twat, gave him the next 2 months off, so he at least must have a level of decency in him somewhere.
