Supermarket Mail

I have a duty now that delivers to a major well known supermarket chain and I have had a run in with one of the staff about the delivery of the mail. In the earlier day before I took the walk the firms van delivered it upstairs now its been put on a P & L walk I use a trolley and cannot leave the trolley unattended while I use a separate door to go upstairs. I drop it just inside the supermarket with customer services but one girl started throwing a wobbler about me going upstairs with it.
Thing is likkle man from pegasus has not allowed the computer to go upstairs? And other near bye stores don’t ask me to go upstairs.
We can look at this two ways?
1) I leave the trolley unattended?
2) I leave the trolley just inside the doorway and if a member of staff opens the door and falls over it who is to blame?
Question where would you guys deliver the mail to?

But it's not your problem. Inform your manager of the situation and let them decide. Have a witness with you, preferably Rep, and follow their instructions. Does the supermarket pay a floor charge? If not, you're not insured to go upstairs by RM, and will be liable for injuries sustained. You can also not leave your trolley unattended and unsecure. People now no longer go upstairs in flats that have letter boxes in the lobby for this reason.(Though I think it's a way to save time/money only).
Let your manager decide. It's what they're paid for, just make sure you're covered by a witness so they can't turn round and lay the blame on you if something goes wrong.

Closest available secure point of delivery is what your training tells you.
I deliver to shops and businesses and that's what they get,no little trips upstairs or around the back or favours for anyone.
I've had the same issue with supermarkets,I walk in and hand it to the first one wearing a tesco/morrisons/whatever uniform.
I couldn't care less if he's the manager or the tea boy.

I pretty much had the same argument they wanted me to press a buzzer at a secure door and wait to be buzzed in and hump upstairs - like you ft it was the first employee I saw and they signed for whatever I had.

take to the nearest till to the door, ask them to take / sign for the items, if they ignore you ( like a lot of them will ) just P739 the whole lot and leave.

it's won't take them long to suss out why they are not getting any mail.

you are not insured to go upstairs.ask your manager what happens is you have a accident and the same with supermarket.the answer will be hard luck.

This is exactly what the firms van driver said to me when he was delivering it a few months ago. He tells me he had to buzz at a door wait till the woman upstairs has finished on the phone or whatever she was doing go up with the mail wait again till she speaks on the phone then get a signature. I'm not prepared to do all rubbish.

I can always do it another way by going into the car park in the van queuing up in traffic take it upstairs and queuing again at the lights that they have to get out of the car park total 20 minutes then telling the DOM can't do packets today…

You could do that and if you were being pedantic you could argue that taking longer protects your job etc but the first day you do it you'll have an argument with your boss and he/she will just tell you to to hand it to the first bod you see which is really all you're supposed to do anyway.

I was told by our old DOM, a few years ago, that if a business required mail delivering upstairs, then there was an additional charge for the service. £50 a year, if I recall correctly!
