ATOS Referral after 1 day sick?

Is this normal? I injured my foot, went to doctors, he said rest for a few days, so i rang the DOM told him this, and that i would need a few days off and that i would ring in on Monday to see how i was and if i Ok to come back to work. Then today i get a text from ATOS saying they'll call me tomorrow about my referral? What referral? This is the first I've heard of any referral? Never had a sick day yet at RM so I've never had to deal with ATOS before, any advice? and any reason they would be contacting me after just one day?

What did you say to your DOM?
He is supposed to say something like: Are you aware of ATOS? Do you feel the need for a referral?
You answer yes or no.
I don't think he is supposed to refer you without your consent.

I HAD a opp at 4.30 on a afternoon came out of the pop at 8.30 and altos rang me at 9.10 i was still in hospital ward for the night so i gave phone to the head doc and they put the phone down on him

i was under the impression that Dom was supposed to ask your permission to refer you to atos, at least that's what I was told when mine referred me for a rehab plan when i broke my wrist.
from what I remember all they'll do is ask you a few questions about what's wrong and some questions about your general health, what you think you can manage to do at work and between you decide an appropriate back to work plan.
a report is then sent to your Dom to ignore as he sees fit

if light/amended duties are decided be sure to ask for a copy to be sent directly to yourself

Nope, DOM never said anything to me about ATOS, or ask for my permission about contacting them. I've don't really know anything about them, i was under the impression that ATOS were for long term sick people, not a guy that's taking 2 days off! I would love to go back to work, after 2 days of lying bed its driving me crazy!
What should i tell them when they phone tomorrow? That i was not informed about them calling and to phone back when I've spoke to my DOM?

Referals to Atos are meant to be with patient consent "patient confidentiality" slap in a greivance these A********S never learn its called "Bullying +Harassment" been going on for years and whats happening about it nothing,sort it out CWU .

But then if i slap a grievance on his ass won't this just result in more bullying and not really get me anywhere? Any advice on what i should do tomorrow when they ring? What will happen if i tell them my consent was not given? Can i refuse to answer any of there questions? Or will that look bad on my part?

Ask your Dom for consent form.If he dont come foward raise a Greivance dont be a door mat this company thinks its above law get rep involved.

I don't know anything about consent forms? What consent form should i be asking for exactly?
From what I've heard grievances against Dom's and managers is just a slippery slope to getting fired, and i'm just on temp contract, it would be so easy for him not renew my contact and get rid of me if i put in a grievance, so for the moment yes they are above the law if i still want a job.

Sounds like your DOM is over keen to me, but don't worry. Here's what usually happens first Atos contact you by phone or some other means to make an appointment date that suits both them and you .Next the appointment will just be a phone conversation between you and the Atos Doctor ,sometimes it's not a Doctor it just depends ,the Atos person will then ask you a few basic questions like how are you feeling and any idea when you might be returning to work ,they will then tell you they will be sending a letter to work just to confirm they've spoken to you and will ask if you would like a copy .I would suggest having a copy just in case the DOM try's spinning some crap. That's it I've even known people get these phone conversations after they have already gone back to work.

I think it depends on your injury on the time it would take for a referral. Something like that, obviously means that rehab will be required, so the DOM may want to start the process ASAP. They may also be covering their back, so any re-occurrence would mean the blame couldn't be placed on them, as they had followed procedure.

It is just as likely that the DOM thinks your taking the piss, and wants ATOS to confirm it. Or they want to make sure you are off only as long as is necessary. May be an attempt to 'persuade' you back to work ASAP.

There is also the point that RM want rid of people, and so every process, whether attendance, sick leave, conduct code etc. etc., is started at the earliest point to make it more likely that staff can be given the bullet as early as possible.

But, the DOM could genuinely be concerned about your wellbeing.

If i went in with half my leg hanging off the DOM would think im taking the piss and try and get me on a walk! I know a lot of people do take the piss with sick leave, which ruins it for people when genuine injuries happen and time off is needed. Its kinda annoying as well that these people who take all the time in the world of are the ones who seem to know how to blag it, and nothing happens, then people like me, never had a day off unless its really needed are the ones who get the book thrown at them!
But i've come to understand with this forum as helpful as some people can be, there are just as many pissed of old guys who have nothing but hate for RM and DOM's and managers, and will give any negative insight and advice as possible, when everything usually seems to go fine

So where do I fit in?
The advice I gave is genuine, and most people on here may be bitter, but it is usually due to negative personal experiences. I am rarely off sick, but the last time I did go sick, I was phoned up twice a day and asked when I would return. While, as you say, the ones who do it all the time and know the system, nothing happens. I think it is because they expect some people off all the time and kind of decide they can't control the situation, or that it isn't worth the bother. Where as with people like me, they decide they can bully me into returning sooner.
You may also consider that, it is just possible, some of us may be aware of information you aren't, and that isn't in the public domain.

Go back to Doctor and tell him you think that you need more time off to recover. Just to piss the Dom off. (Get sick note).

I went back on Monday to normal duty, just because i can't stand being stuck at home any longer. Even though my foot still hurts, i can't think of anything worst than being stuck in that office all day on 'light duties'!
