dsa update- staff letter.

i delivered a few of these today and got one myself so i presume most of us did. i posted on here a few weeks back saying i thought rm were WITH the union on boycotting the dsa amidst rumours they wernt. this letter positively confirms they are totally against it. it says:-We have made £80 million on access/dsa mail. if we dont deliver it then it is likely customers will look for alternatives including using more email or using our DIRECT DELIVERY competitors instead?....it then says 1.Almost one in two of all the letters we handle is access/dsa. 2.Access mail was loss making but we turned that around. we make money on it now. 3.price rises and a new regulatory framework mean we are making money from dsa mail. 4. we must deliver all of the mail entrusted to us under dsa contracts. it is in our DNA to deliver all the mail. IT IS IMPORTANT WE DELIVER ALL THE MAIL WELL, INCLUDING ACCESS MAIL. well what a surprise, and there just happens to be a ballot coming up. well lads and lasses,,,thoughts??

Royal Mail have no option but to officially oppose the mail boycott otherwise they would be in breach of their operating license.

aye, that was mentioned. they will be heavily fined if they dont oppose it. but according to them,,,well in the courier at least, they reckon we are, or 'were' losing money hand over fist from dsa.

Because its not really about DSA, its about unfair competition, privatisation and protecting the USO.

then ask yourself how much we would be making and how many ft jobs would have been saved and how many mail centres would still be open .
dsa is killing us not making us a profit only the private bosses make big bucks

are they not just bullshitting because of the impending boycott?

but if we stop delivering dsa and they find some other way of getting it delivered isnt it a bit self defeating,,,or do we have the upper hand cause of the final mile thing

I think the Union, and to some degree RM, are posturing, they are trying to put on some political pressure on the decision makers (Gov, regulator) and need the members to back their line. However, for it to go to a real boycott the Union would have to answer a lot of legal questions and clarify how they would protect their own members.

How many times is that now? I reckon about between 10 and 15 times they've mentioned this profit since the possibility of a boycott became very real, prior to this it was loss making. And they wonder why we're sceptical.
