Had a union meeting today with regards to the boycott. I mean it sounded pretty serious but what are the actual chances of it happening? :confused

Do people really think the public are going to have much sympathy with us after the price hikes?!

Is the CWU saying we cant have a strike against privatisation so we will draw potential investors attention to what DSA really is. Seeing that the Royal Mail are doing someone else's work cheaply they may ask why does DSA exist in the first place. Would it prevent an investor buying 5% of Royal Mail shares though. I would say I'm only buying shares if these DSA contracts don't have to be renewed and customers end up using the other products.

That group would only be the "sheeples" who can't differentiate between the company and the Union So around 99% of the readership of the tabloids then :nervous.

The more informed and those of a less reactionary bent may actually support the Union and us because of the price hike.

Edit - and in my opinion I don't think most of the public will actually realise a boycott is in place if it ever does go ahead.

Slim - in my opinion.

This is a PR exercise which I am convinced is being surreptitiously supported by RM, who publicly have to brief against it (hence the RM spam we are getting on it). The Union are trying to put pressure on the regulator prior to privatisation and its a win/win situation for RM, if we don't actually carry out the boycott - if we do then it could get messy, both for RM the Union and more importantly individual members. I also think the CWU are fully aware of this hence the motions and timetables being passed at conference.

However, despite the above I think we should give the CWU our backing for the boycott when we take part in the consultative ballot as the better the turn out and the larger the vote for a boycott, the more negotiating/political power the union will have.

I agree with the point about the original posting about the individual member I think there will be a lot of pressure put on that person to carry out the work and we could see mass suspensions. There will be people who will quite understandably buckle under the pressure. Further what are we going to do all day? Sit in the canteen perhaps!

The real battle should be on wages, terms and conditions this fight on DSA will divert us from that cause.

But the fight isn't really about DSA it is about end to end competition which will seriously impact on your terms and conditions.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.
