Transfers

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum etc, wasn't sure where to put it.

I've supposedly been on the transfer list for nearly 2 years now. I was told by my line manager that the only way to apply for a transfer was via the online system thats in place (which is absolutely useless by the way). I constantly have to keep re-registering on the site and I can search 100 mile radius of my postcode and have no success at all.
Has anyone else used this service with any success? Or is there another way of going about it? Has anyone on here actually ever had a transfer? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Managers can help and push it though faster if they want

Is it worth contacting the office I want to be transferred to do you reckon? Any experience with transfers?

Most people would advise that, if there is an office, or a few offices, that you would like to transfer to, then visit them and speak to the DOM about it.
You will know immediately if there are vacancies there, it will cut waiting time, and if there is a vacancy you may find the manager at the office you visit may be able/willing to speed up the process, especially if they are short staffed.

Get direct line phone numbers/names of managers while there, so if there is no chance now of a transfer, you can ring in the future to check periodically.

i am just away to get transfered for the 2nd time. the way i managed to get a transfer both times is by going into the office i wanted to get transfered to and speaking to the manager there. the online stuff is pretty much useless

Cheers for that lads. As you say, the online stuff is absolutely useless, not even sure its an internal system. Total joke.

Managers tend to ignore anything related to online. In my office they don't do anything when customers request redeliveries of parcels online, then when the customers complain, they ask the relevant postie what is going on.

Really don't think managers even look at the online transfer site, as they don't want to lose staff.

have been trying to get a transfer for over 18 months now without any luck, the union and managers have not been very helpful and HR sent me a letter over 12 months ago saying they do not do transfers anymore, you have to apply online like everyone else when a job comes up. yet someone has been transferred in to my office without doing any of this, and they are full time.

That's a back door job you get it all the time,someone somewhere will know someone and as sure is day is day night is night they get in,very annoying

The system worked for me re transfer, but that was nearly 4 years ago, had managers from 2 different offices in the area I wanted to go, contact me directly via phone. Don't remember it being an online system then though ??? I know I filled a paper form out with a list of 5 offices I would consider.

I am trying to get a transfer to Bristol Mail centre, I work on CSS machines, does anyone in Bristol know if there are any vacancies or the name of the person I need to contact and perhaps his/her direct phone number. Thanks Kevin from Birmingham Mail Centre.
