Royal Mail National Talks : The Special Report

Post by fishtank »

No. 264/13 Ref: 21003 Date: 19th April 2013

To: All Branches with Postal Members

Dear Colleague

Royal Mail National Talks – The Special Report

As reported in LTB 238/13, further talks have taken place this week on all the issues covered by the Special Report.

Given the wide ranging nature of these talks and their impact on outstanding Business Transformation issues, 2013 Pay and Reward and the company’s future strategy, both parties have agreed that further negotiations will need to take place following Annual Conference.

The Postal Executive will be given a detailed report on the talks when they meet on the site of Annual Conference.

Following this, arrangements will be put in place to provide Branches with a more detailed update at Conference. Also, as previously reported, the Postal Executive will be considering the terms of an Emergency Motion as part of the report back process.

Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.

Yours sincerely

They've got to show that they're doing something otherwise we'd all stop funding their lazy lifestyle (did I say that out loud?).

To be honest, I wouldn't object to clocking in and out. It would prove that you've worked your hours etc.
Though, I would insist that the managers also clocked in/out too. And I don't mean they take it in turns to stay late and clock the cards either.

the thing that gets me is me and my mate start on time , take meal breaks and use trolleys and where last back as the other idiots in the office come in early no breaks and no trolleys and finish at least 2 hours before us everyday and the dom says I just want you to work your hours before claiming o/t so you cant claim while a Saturday and when you go in surprise no o/t sheet , then the fun starts and its like that every week , and it doesn't sound right to me but we have no union support as he just looks after his self. 1 day a week on delivery he does.

Royal Mail will never agree to clocking in/out machines, because they know there are so many posties finish out on the walk and do not come back to the delivery office. If they made everyone come back just to clock out it would add thousands of hours a day in overtime across the country.

There were supposed to be trials of this after the Way Forward agreement but I don't know if they ever happened:
REAL TIME STAFF HOUR RECORDING

18.1 Royal Mail and the Communication Workers’ Union recognise that the collection and recording of information on attendance and hours worked needs to be streamlined. More effective use of technology to do this will enable Royal Mail to monitor the number of hours worked by employees in line with the requirements under the Working Time Regulations and provide more accurate and timely management information, including automatic uplift to payroll.

18.2 Alternative methods of recording time will be trialled jointly by the business and the union at one or more sites, with agreement to speedy deployment on a national basis if successful. The methods to be trialled will include automated capture of time and attendance data. Measures to be used in assessing the alternative methods will include cost effectiveness, confidentiality, robustness of technology.

18.3 Time recording shall not take place from one area to another and shall only be used for logging on and off, including start and finish of overtime

I just hope the cwu stick and fight for this , as there would be no more doms signing sheets of scrap paper for o/t claims. as the clock cards would be sent straight to the wage department and get paid for what you've done.
